Default AC compressor operation

I have noticed that my AC compressor seems to me keeps running all the time. Both fans are On as well. Is it normal?
Should the compressor cycle On and Off periodically? Can anyone check how their AC system works?
Thank you!

Thank you very much NdYAG. Interesting article. Are you saying that our cars have internally controlled variable
displacement compressor which can/do continuosly run? That would explain why I have never(?) heard the sound of
compressor clutch engagement.
