Default Gas tank size

I have an es350b2014 for few years now. I was wondering about actual gas tank size? I never filled more than 14.5 gallon and the manual says 17.3 gallon tank.

I always get tank to E and miles to go less than 20 and I only fill 12-4 gallons. Is everyone having same??

Yes. I think Lexus plays it safe. If you're in the city, then fill up whenever. If you're on the road, you better start looking for a gas stations. Two to three gallons will get you up to 50 miles on the highway (gasoline model ES) or more, but that's cutting it close. Even when I was panicing on a road trip, I filled up IIRC only 15.5 gallons. So yes, the fuel gauge and "distance remaining" are conservative. But that's a good thing for safety purposes. In general, you should fill up when you are around 3/4 empty. Also, you never know when you'll be stuck in traffic or when/what/why you might need to run your engine for a while and not get to a gas station.

I agree KiJug... all good points... my "rule of thumb" is whenever I'm approaching 1/4 tank, I fill up. I know a few years back I was driving to St. Louis, and decided to take the scenic route north of Little Rock up towards Missouri. Headed north and noticed I still had just a tad over half a tank, drove past gas stations knowing there would be more down the road. Man was I wrong. At one point I was sweating bullets. My wife and I were on a small 2 lane highway in the middle of nowhere.. It was nearly 10 pm and the fuel gauge was showing a EMPTY.... 6 miles remaining. Finally saw some cheap cut rate gas station, as I pulled in the parking lot, they shut off the lights.. I pleaded my case with the worker who was locking up for the night. Thankfully he went back in and turned the pumps on and I topped it off. Lesson learned, especially if you get off the main drag in area's you're unfamiliar with, fill that thing up Better to be safe than sorry.

Thank you both. I generally fill up at 1/4 tank but sometimes I am between worried about getting to destination or filling up. I don't like how Lexus is too conservative with the Tank gauge. My wife Mercedes is very accurate and my previous Acura was also accurate. I think it is better. I guess this is probably my only complain about car...
