I'm talking 2013+ model years, low mile, cream puff type of cars, max budget is around $20,000. But man I'd like to be $3-4k under that number, unless the really special car comes along.
Main thing I see for the Chrysler is it drives nicer, being RWD, it doesn't go light in the front and wiggle the steering wheel when you floor it like the Lexus ES. Its also a bit quieter, rides nicer. Granted if you chuck it hard into a corner, I think the ES is superior in that respect, but who in the hell cares about handling dynamics in a car like this. Also the tech is superior in the Chrysler, you get a superior touch screen, 2017+ models have Andriod Auto/Apple Car Play.
All that being said, the Lexus has a nicer interior, bigger back seat, and roomier trunk.
I'm kind of torn between the two, as I can get something like a 2018-2019 Chrysler with 30,000 miles for the same price as a 2013-2016 Lexus ES350 with 60,000+ miles.

Since they don't drive a lot, I cannot say they've had issues since the car does not have high mileage. But Lexus will last you a long time.

Ask yourself why the great difference in price between the two cars. Answer: Because it's a Chrysler vs. a Lexus...

I can't imagine not picking the Lexus in this situation.

Posting this question on a Lexus forum is undoubtedly going to result in an answer favoring Lexus. You may need to focus on more specific attributes about each that you like. Without a doubt, people on this forum are going to be more familiar with Lexus products than Chrysler vehicles. For the record, I too would prefer the Lexus based on anticipated reliability and the fact that I just don't care for the styling of the Chrysler. I don't drive in a style that requires a great deal of "punching it" so the difference between front wheel drive and rear wheel drive wouldn't really factor into my preference.

Two years ago I rented a Chrysler 300 while on a trip. The dashboard looked like a video game. The ride was so-so. The reliability...unless it's improved greatly...would be questionable (I owned a Chrysler product for several years)...Chrysler had great design but p*** poor manufacturing QC. I'll take Lexus any day of the week and twice on Sunday for gas mileage, driver comfort, and overall reliability. Just my opinion...maybe Chrysler has changed but ever since Fiat got involved with them I'd be skeptical.

Just take a look at the reliability of a Fiat and there would be no mystery as to what to choose... The Italians make good pasta and wine. Not so much with the cars except maybe Ferrari and Lamborghini...

Aron, I was in your position several years back. I had rented a Chrysler 300 to use on vacation while my Avalon was in the shop. I really liked the ride of the Chrysler but I was not crazy about side or rear visibility. But I have to admit I enjoyed the nice ride. When I got ready to buy a new car in 2014 I strongly considered the 300 but then started looking at Lexus. After doing some research I quickly came to the realization that Lexus was, by far, the more reliable car. I can vouch for that now... My last 3 vehicles have been a 2010 Toyota 4 Runner which we still have. Not one issue with the 4 Runner since the day we bought it. I also had a 2007 Avalon, same story there, no issues ( other than the time I rear ended a guy at a stop light, ) and now my Lexus which I've had for 7 years, another GREAT car. Not going to knock Chrysler, but I know in the last 14 years I've had 3 Toyota or Lexus vehicles and they have been GREAT. From reading your post I got the impression you really want the Chrysler. But because of my experience with cars since 2007, I would go right back to the Toyota or Lexus dealership if I were to be in the car market again anytime soon. They're just do damn reliable. Good luck with your decision.

I too rented a Chrysler 300 a few years back. I must have had a different type of Chrysler 300 than you Guys drove. It was ok, but it drove and Steered like a SUV to me. Also drank Gas like crazy. I would have not wanted to own it. The Lexus is a whole nother car as far as comfort and ease of driving IMO.

UPDATE: Just took delivery on a red/black leather 2014 ES350 with 51k miles. Decided the real compelling reason to get a Chrysler or Dodge was the HEMI V8. Those with the V8 freaking hold their value, at my price point they were a bit ragged/been hooned on by the previous owners. Also the Lexus did have a much nicer looking interior. But the Chrysler(I'm talking 2019 Chrysler v6 vs 2014 Lexus) for the same price had the Lexus hands down beat in terms of technology/features. Touch screen was way more advanced/better graphics/easier to use, had Apple Car Play/Android auto, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist(hate that feature), probably a few other things that my Lexus doesn't have.
Also thought about a Lexus GS, but noticed most of those had an 18 or 19" wheel option, tighter back seat and smaller trunk. Drove/handled nicer, rode a little bit stiffer, probably would have bought the GS if I lived in an area with a lot of curvy roads. Figured since most of my driving is interstate I wouldn't miss the handling advantage but the smallish trunk due to the RWD setup ruled it out.
Also you kind of stick to your tribe. Have had great service from my 4 GM cars(they were all RWD/V8, don't buy anything GM with a transverse FWD setup). Also have had great service from the 4 Toyotas I've owned(3 trucks and a 1992 Lexus SC300). My mother had a 2012 V6 Camry, ran the odometer to 180,000 miles 7 years, had 1 wheel bearing go bad in that whole time. Talking to her about that Camry kind of tipped my hand to Toyota.

Thanks for the PM and remembering me! Yeah had a pearl white 1992 SC300 5 speed from 2012 to 2018, it was my main car, drove it on many a road trip, racked the odometer from 60k to 100k in that time period. That's a lot of miles since it sat a lot in the winter and I lived 8 miles from work. Still kind of kicking myself for selling it, but it was going to need like $3,000 worth of work in the next year or so(suspension, timing belt, was rusting along the top of the windshield). Love my new ES, its a superior car except its a rather soul-less thing compared to the SC. That car had real style, a certain timeless quality about it. And that inline six was smoother than the V6 in the ES, made a way nicer snarl when you got on it.
