So on ongoing issue with a used 2013 300h model. I only get 12.6 gallons on a fill once I hit empty/zero miles on range.
Lexus told me the reserve is two gallons, so I am 2.7 gallons short on one end. I noticed every time I fill the tank the needle
drops completely off full after a few miles. Only a couple time have I made it past 10 miles.
So the question is, does your 300h do the same thing? Would you suspect the tank is not filling to capacity and if not what should
I do about it so it stays on full for awhile? All my previous vehicles gave me at least two gallons or more before the needle moved off full.
4.7 gallons would be a large reserve. I don't know how far to push it.
My solution: Never go past 1/2 tank, never ever go to empty for checking or any other reason, stop pumping when the hose automatically stops at full. Problem solved, no worries...

Your solution does not provide any answers or solve any problems. My "half-tank" is barely over six gallons.

The fuel tank capacity on your vehicle is 17.2 U.S. gal. I don't know what you mean by "reserve" in the case of a Lexus? There are reserve capabilities on most motorcycles and some pickups. And fuel gauges vary by manufacturer. My ES350 drops off from "full" quicker than other cars I've owned. Others, maybe as high as 30-40 freeway miles before dropping? I would imagine Lexus gauges are very accurate. When the pump shuts off at the gas station like someone else said, stop.
I had to open the manual up for the 2013 ES 300h just to verify the capacity. I don't recall ever seeing more than 13 gallons when we had the 2015 300h. But the manual indeed says 17 gallons. I'm sorry, but I cannot explain the disparity.
I know I could check at start up, but it's more fun to talk with our fellow Lexus owners. Has anyone driven their ES to a point that the low fuel warning comes on? I'm sure all gas powered cars have this feature since the 80s. I've never noticed it in this car? I remember if it came on back then, you had a little over a gallon to at most 2. The good old days. I'm speculating a feature added because of the gas shortage in the 70s, not really as a safety feature.
Wife drove my 2018 ES 350 and parked it in the driveway. Told me the fuel light was on and showed 0 miles left of fuel. I promptly took it and filled the tank till shutoff. 15.8 gallons. Not my modus operandi, as I never go below 1/4 tank.

yes, and the fill was “at least” 3 gal short of the fuel tank capacity.
I found my Owners manual.
17.0 gal fuel capacity
Low fuel light is the gas pump symbol on the gauge. it will turn yellow and beep. Apx. 2.6 gals will remain.
I've never been able to put 17 gallons in my car (non-hybrid model) but I also don't ever run it to "zero". I'm just wondering if the trip computer saying "zero" is just saying that to keep owners out of trouble when it really can go further. See the infamous Seinfeld episode for a good example.
When you really run a modern car out of gas dry, it can be expensive. New fuel pump, etc.
My wife on her car is basically always in a state of empty, I've joked the bulb for the low gas warning will probably burn out on her car. Maybe it's designed for these sorts of drivers.
