Default Fuel gauge issue.

First, I searched and couldn't find anything like this. 2017 ES350. Driving this morning and the low fuel light comes on. Range says 80 miles. After about 5 miles, range drops to just say "refuel". I pull into the station and it held $35 before it clicked. Didn't pay attention to how many gallons that was. Started to car to drive off and the gauge is below the E and range still says "refuel". Restarted the car a couple of times since and the same thing. Needle below E and no range. What could it be?

Seems like a sensor, I would first unplug the battery and see if it’s a software thing, let the car reset and see if it helps.

id check codes after and than take it in to see what’s up.

report back

Any ill effects from disconnecting the battery? And how long to reset?

you might lose radio presets and need to set time again. Maybe some driver personalizations.

id say 10-15 minutes

Battery reset didn’t work. Any other ideas? Trying to find a solution that doesn’t involve opening the tank. A fuse or something?

i would check other forms, Rx/is/gs and search for terms relating to your issue and see if anything pops up if so good, if not, might need to take it in.

Might also check the Toyota forums for similar problems and solutions. As you may know the ES shares many parts with the Toyota Avalon and Camry. Here is one forum.

Maybe a silly question but, did you check that the fuel cap was on properly? There have been reports of codes and warning lights if it's not on tight.

No codes. No check engine light. Only low fuel and needle below E. Suspect fuel sending unit. Would this be covered u see the 70k powertrain warranty?

Mouse chewed a wire in two. $135 later, it’s fixed.
