Default OEM door guards

my 2018 es350 had the passenger side door edge guard (which was installed by lexus) fall off today when I shut the door. It took some of the paint off the door edge as well. The car is still under warranty. could anyone tell me if lexus would cover this type of damage under the warranty? or at the very least replace the guard which fell off?

My gut says the dealer that did the work will make 101 excuses not to cover the damage. Only way to find out is call.

I believe you. with the paint it took off it left some rust. lexus agreed to replace the guard that fell off. it was ordered being that it has to be painted to match.. but I'm planning to hit the body shop and have them removed from both sides and re paint the doors.

can you post some pictures. i just purchased oem door gaurds from Lexus and haven't installed them. the oem gaurds include the paint color in the part number. hesitant to install if it causes rust. i thought it protects from door dings/scratch.

Thanks

If I had the option I wouldn't put them on. They were on the car already when I purchased it as part of the package it put the paint protection and those guards. It fell off 3 times since. The others are on solid but seeing the light rust and how it grips the paint it can't be good. more money for them putting them on, the paint came off in chips all along the entire strip. the oem lexus guards are metal so it perhaps added to the rot

The door edge guards I have on my 17 ES are a film material. Yours appear to be plastic from the picture? Not sure if the film is a dealer thing or a Lexus thing. In any event they adhere to the door to the point that you wouldn't notice them unless you were looking for them. Not concerned that they would cause any rust problem

they are metal from lexus ordered. they come painted to your color car exact. there is no film on. they take them grab a mallet and slightly bang them on. they hold by grip from what I see not any type of sticker or film.

The only protection I would use is the 3m film which is a tape that sticks on. It traps no moisture and can be peeled off easily and replaced.

Once you have rust, it’s not going to stop.

Those are totally different than the ones on my 17. The film they used on mine also matches the body color. Lexus must have changed their approach perhaps due to the problems you encountered. In any event, I would not use either the metal or plastic ones on any of my vehicles especially considering the film works so well.

Definitely take it back to the dealer and explain to them it fell off thre times while the others are still holding. Obviously a defective trim piece or installed poorly. I have a 2014 ES350 with door guards, originals (8yrs old) just removed and no paint damage. I replaced with new ones I got on Ebay, selfstick adhesive style.
You probably should lightly sand down the door edge and apply some no rust primer over the damged paint area before reinstalling the door guard. If you want to replace it yourself just use this stuff, 3M Plastic Emblem and Trim Adhesive, 03601, 1 fl oz $5.99
