Default ES300h Acceleration

Hey guys

So my ES300h when starting from 0 I feel like the something spinning before it grips onto something only then my car takes off

if in sports mode, I slam on the accelerator I can feel something spinning faster and will take off after it grips

is this normal for a 2015 Lexus ES 300h? I’ve never had this issues before or at least the feeling of something spinning for a second or two.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts !

I don't know if it is normal for your car but all es hybrids have acceleration lag. it is "normal" by factory.
"something spinning before it grips onto something" i think you're talking about planetary gear system.

I didn’t know they all had lag, I bought the car second hand and the dealer changed all fluid for me even the transmission (cost an arm and leg) so I didn’t really notice anything abnormal. After the new to me car purchase adrenaline hype dwindled I noticed the spinning feeling before car moves so was worried about the transmission possibly slipping.
the rpm seems steady when I’m driving so maybe it is the lag you mentioned!

They don't. I don't understand the basis for that comment as I have never experienced such a behavior. I have owned 6 hybrid vehicles, 4 of them Lexus - including a 2015 ESh. If my 2015 ES hybrid behaved that way, there is no way I would have followed it with a 2019 ESh. None of our hybrids have exhibited such a lag. In my humble opinion, something is wrong with your transmission. Unfortunately, I can't offer any guidance on exactly what the failure may be but I would take it to the dealer.

Thanks for the input, now I do feel a bit worried .

from stationary no one else feels like the gear spins before grabbing to something else? The rpm seem steady and smooth after accelerating. I thought maybe I have just have lead feet and because of this that’s why I feel the spinning motion before a little jerk before the car takes off. All in all the delay I feel is like around 1 sec.

also I did try googling everything before posting on here so hopefully if someone else in the future google something similar to Lexus CVT or eCVT will see this post

My ES300h is very responsive, no lag. I also brought my father in-law a Camry Hybrid, same drivetrain. The Camry accelerates a bit better, as it's lighter and smaller than the Es300h.
We have a RX450h, its even more responsive due to the torquey v6 and bigger electric motor.
The most responsive is that GS450h I had, that thing flies.
