Oil Change Interval by Mileage Only
#16
I've always used the 1year/10k rule myself on all of my vehicles (2017 ES, 09 Odyssey, 15 Roush Stage 3, 13 HD Road King) and done the changes myself. However, with the price of petroleum products rising drastically, driving less because of it and averaging lower miles per year on all vehicles I am probably going to stretch it at least to the 1.5 year and evaluate a change depending on additional mileage at that point. I really don't think it will do any harm to stretch it a little bit further.

If you do short-distance driving, which I assume you do because your car is 8 years old and has pretty low miles, then you should change your oil every 6 months to one year regardless of miles driven. If you live in a state that has hot summers and very cold winter combined with low mileage trips, I would change the oil every six months minimum.
Vehicles that are driven on longer highway trips generally see better oil longevity per mile for a few reasons, but one of them is that with a stable heat cycle on the oil, there's less chance for moisture to stay bonded to it, unlike the constant heating and cooling that occurs with short trips that can promote condensation and less flash-off.
Even some of the best oil manufacturers say that if you buy their oil, you should use it within two years from date of purchase. Now, there may be some wiggle room there, but the general idea is that nothing lasts forever. The validity of the manufacturers claims may have more to do with the seal under the cap than the nature of the way the oil was processed.
When in doubt, look at oil changes like insurance: Paying for a conservative DIY oil change with a quality oil and filter is much cheaper than replacing an engine.

I believe that pure synthetics do not deteriorate nearly as quickly as dino oil...

I'm kind of in the same situation. Haven't put a lot of miles on my cars the last few years. I've got a 2013 ES that just turned 59K miles. I'm old school, I change my oil every 5K miles or if I haven't driven 5K miles since the last change, I change it at one year. I know changing every 5K miles is probably overkill, especially since I use synthetic oil, but an oil change is a relatively cheap maintenance item, and it gives me peace of mind to do so. Just my opinion.

5000 Miles / 8000 Kilometers or 1 year (whichever comes first, especially if you live in a cold climate). I use Mobil1 for Toyota + Denso Filter because I noticed it ran quieter over other brands. Just some advice for the DIY folks, hand tight or 25 N-m or 18 ft-lb for the filter housing if you're OCD like me... I learned this the hard way when the dealer tightened it so tight I needed a breaker bar to take it off.

I’ve been getting calls, texts and emails about my 2018 needing service from the dealership.
It was serviced in Sept 2021 for the 30,000. I have only driven 4,700 miles since then.
I called my service guy at the dealer and he said ignore the calls and texts. Synthetic oil bring it in at 10,000.
I will take it in by Sept if I have not hit the 10,000 miles. I know that there are items that should be inspected.
