I don't drive much. I have 2015 ES350. Current mileage is 46000. Last oil change was a year ago at 42000. Since it's been a year, I went to the local Lexus dealer for oil change but the service advisor told me to come back when the mileage hits 52000. I told him that the oil would be 2 years old by then and he still insisted and went so far as showing me the oil stick (oil did look as fresh as new) and told me other techs would say to change it for money. What do all you knowledgeable members say regarding this? I would appreciate your sound opinion. Thanks for your help.

Always heard one year or 10,000 miles.

I’d take it to a Toyota dealer and get it changed, it will be cheaper, same oil filter and synthetic oil. You want it changed at least once a year. You’re not saving enough money to offset camshaft vvt gear problems or internal engine problems due to fuel diluted oil. While very reliable, these engines are dependent upon clean, quality oil and filter. I change my own oil, Mobil 1 and Toyota filters that I buy from online Lexus or Toyota dealerships. I change it every 6000 miles or 1 year, whichever comes 1st. When I had a 2014 Camry SE, I did it very 5000 miles, the engines are very reliable but very expensive to repair if an internally lubricated part fails, that’s my 2 cents. I have a 2014 ES350, basically the same thing you’re driving. Frank

Yes, I agree. The oil looks clean but it gets acidic and causes corrosion issues. Also as Fran pointed out above, oil gets diluted with combusion water and the oil is very thin in these cars anyway.

In that case, I wouldn't worry about it, but I would change it at 1.5 years, not 2 years. There has been many oil analysis done in the bobistheoilguy forum and good synthetics still performs well past 1 year on low K's.

Follow what Lexus says, not anyone else. Especially, a dealership employee.

As Mike states, use the manufacturer's schedule as they want your car to perform and it's cheap insurance...

After many years of sending oil for analysis to Blackstone Labs (https://www.blackstone-labs.com/) they stated that with modern engines time really didn't matter and mileage was more of a factor. They typically recommend 10k oil changes as long as your oil samples look fine at 3-5k.
I have vehicles that I haven't changed the oil on in probably 5-7 years that maybe get driven a couple thousand miles and they are completely fine.

maybe you can read owners manual instead of taking advisors word. You will find that oil needs to be changed once a year. It degrades with time due to contact with products of combustions.

There is nothing magical about the 1 year mark. Is not like after 1 year and 1 day your oil suddenly becomes ineffective.
Stretching after 1 year should be backed up by laboratory testing for your oil running in your car, only then you’ll have scientific evidence.
The same thing with mileage. Sometimes you need changing before 10k miles.
