Default Type of engine oil?

The owner's manual says to use 6.4 quarts of 0w20 engine oil. Does that mean synthetic or just regular? Thanks

I believe that 0W20 is available in synthetic only. Use synthetic and do a change every 10k miles or one year...

OK that makes it simple if all 0w20 is synthetic lol. Thanks for your reply bc6152.

I use pennzoil ultra platinum synthetic. All 0-20 is either full synthetic or partial synthetic.

Any name brand pure synthetic will suffice. I buy whatever is on sale but also prefer the Pennzoil Platinum...

Kind of funny, prior generation of ES has identical engine and runs on 5w-30.

Prior generation ES using 5w-30 was EPA rated 19 city and 28 highway vs 21 city and 31 highway on later gen using 0w-20. Probably some other factors too. I was rather skeptical of using that "thin" of oil at first but it has proven to work just fine at least for me.
I use Mobil 1 when I change it myself because its usually what's on sale. When the Lexus dealer changes it, its whatever bulk oil they buy.

I guess that the Lexus engineers found that the 0W20 weight works better...

more like they had to reduce viscosity due to CAFE requirements to get that 0.1% MPG improvement…

0w-20 is not needed. I run exclusively 5w-30 mobil 1 or castrol edge.
