So, I pulled the trigger and purchased a 2021 ES 300h - Premium Package from a BMW dealer in Florida. The car was delivered on Monday. Super clean interior/exterior with 25K miles. I paid 38K, about 13K off the sticker when new. The car has a Nightfall Mica exterior with a Chateau leather with Linear Dark Mocha wood trim interior. Thanks for all the advice, especially getting a '21 or '22 with the lithium-ion hybrid battery under the rear seat, leaving more truck room. The car has listed "optional equipment" of: 18 inch 10-spoke alloy wheels, blind spot monitoring w/ rear cross traffic alert and intuitive parking assist w/ auto braking, hands-free power open/close trunk, navigation/Mark Levinson audio package w/ 12.3 inch display, wireless charger, and wood trim with ambient lighting,
Car was missing the McGard key for the wheel locks, but it had the card with the listed McGard information so I ordered the wheel lock key from them. One question to the group. When I open either the driver's or front passenger's door at night, it displays a white light circle on the ground with the Lexus dealer name that originally sold the car. I am sure you can change the lens to display something else. Any suggestions as to what options are out there and where to order them?

nice pickup! It looks like its in good condition, and you have some remaining factory warranty for peace of mind in case any issues come up .
I dont know much about battery technology, NiMH vs lithium ion etc, - but all I can say is that my 2023 ES300h performs / drives better, AND has about 10MPG improved fuel efficiency compared to my old 2016 ES300h... Some of this could be engine improvement in addition to battery improvement, but I'm pleased with the improvements over the years to this car model.
Models with NiHM and Li-Ion get the same MPG. The NiHM battery is more durable and can cope with the cold and heat better than the Li-Ion. On the other hand, the Li-Ion is lighter and more complicated.
The difference in MPG between the 2013-2018 model and the 2019+ model is huge, partly because of the superior 4th generation hybrid system and much better aerodynamics.
I am surprised how much less people seem to care about touchpad vs touchscreen! I've gone thru the **** ('15 NX) and touchpad on current '20UX. Most recent cars of different makes I've driven have touchscreen. My wife struggles with the touchpad. I am now looking to upgrade to a '22 ES 300H. I thought about the NX 350H but they are getting snapped up very quickly and the ES just has a lot more space and comfort for passengers. My 2 cents...
I am perfectly fine with the touchpad. I don’t like touch screens especially the ones with the small buttons. Hence, I use voice command for almost everything so there is no need to use the touchpad too much.

We had an NiMh fail on a Camry hybrid at 9.5 years 110,000 miles. About a year after the battery warranty was up they used to be shorter. Texas heat probably did it in they usually last longer.
Wasn't 2022 the year that the new Lexus Hybrid technology was implemented? There is a 2 sec difference in 0-60 times between the '21 and '22 ES models. This is the same technology that Toyota implemented on the RAV4, Highlander and Sienna a year earlier if I'm not mistaken. I have driven '22 Hybrids as loaners and they are definitely quicker than the old models. This is another reason I am on the lookout for the '22 models.
The 0 to 60 times for identical, the only difference is the models from 2021 have lithium-ion battery. The battery has the same capacity as the previous nickel metal hydride and the same output power.

probably the heat, since these models had mediocre cooling system for the battery.

Plus the ES lets you change source, etc with dedicated physical buttons, right? (I don't own one yet but I thought this was the case)
It’s a shame that HV traction batteries are essentially a consumable item given how much a new battery costs.
It'll be interesting to see ten or more years from now how the aftermarket serves this segment because the Green Bean type hybrid battery replacements are not ideal (they “recondition” old batteries).
