I’ve had my F Sport with ML for almost a year now and I still haven’t adjusted the sound settings on my car. Even still, I think the system is pretty decent. When I first heard it, I thought it wasn’t as good as it was hyped up to be. But that’s probably because it’s still in the default/standard setting.
But I think the ML should be the least of your worries. It’s probably the touchpad infotainment system that you’re gonna hate if you buy a 2020 ES. I originally wanted a F Sport in Silver Lining with Circuit Red interior. But part of the reason I didn’t get it was because of all the reviews saying how much of a nightmare the touchpad was. Once the 2022s came out with touchscreen, I knew I had to have one. I also have the touchpad in my car, but never use it because it’s such a headache.
I don’t know how long you plan on keeping an ES or if you’re willing to buy a 2022 or newer, but I would take the 2020 on a test drive and try to use the touchpad and compare it with a 2022 or newer, if that’s something you’d be willing to consider.

"The clarity of the ML is outstanding, but the knock on it is that the soundstage is too front-heavy. To remedy this, you need to move the fader two steps back from center and turn Surround to Off. If you don't take these steps, it's deliberately hobbling the system to give you less than its best sound.
