Right. Turn the fader towards the rear AND turn the volume up. That should do it.

I agree with this.

The sound from the front-biased sound stage never feels deficient or out of balance. I struggle to make sense of the characterizations this sound system gets straddled with. I've heard audio systems that sound like garbage, and this isn’t that by any stretch. I went into my first test drive in 2019 expecting disappointment, only to be left confused, wondering if I was in the wrong car. I was not hearing what so many were describing. So at the end of the day, you have to listen to it and decide for yourself because it is likely there will never be a consensus. Audio is one of my top factors in an automobile decision, and I haven’t been disappointed with the ES ML audio yet.

I was responding to the OP, by confirming your post. I was suggesting the original poster may want to search to view the full discussion. I have no reason to think a Tesla owner would want to search an old ES audio thread.

It was fixed to a degree, but still people complain it's not enough.

Well I meant every ES has weak speakers in the back seat, but yes that is true that there was a defect in the first 7ES's where the issue was even worse. I sat in the back of my car once for a shorter road trip and very much noticed how weak the rear speakers are.

Daughter has a 2013 Camry, it’s also very low volume in the rear. This is apparently a purposeful decision by the designers. I personally prefer even front rear balance.

The TSB was only for base systems. ML has the same issue but no TSB.

I went with the suggestion of biasing the balance towards the rear, killing both the Surround effect and Auto Volume effect and in the immortal words of Joe Elliott "Turn It Up!"

Exercise in futility IMO.

I tried out the sound system on my friend's 2018 Mercedes. Guess what? The behavior is remarkably alike!

I kill the surround, keep the auto leveler on, fader smack dab in the middle and crank it! Perfect sound!

It does help a bit. I’d gladly trade those rear door speakers for a couple of 6x9’s on the rear deck.

Fader/Balance is at the center . Anyone had similar issues?
If you do a quick forum search, these are a few of the threads about this issue. A couple of them are pretty long, so get comfy if you read all the way through them. There are a few people
who are actually doing something to fix this issue instead of just complaining about it. Anyone knows that the factory sound system in any car is usually pretty average, and can always be
improved. Just depends on how much time and money you want to put into your particular solution because everyone has their own preferences/limits when it comes to car audio.
Apparently a couple of these threads are pretty old.

Hope this helps. Happy researching!
