My Lexus 2019 ES 350 has an orange indicator on the dashboard saying HD and then the number 1 right next to it enclosed within a box

If you have the Multi Information Display's (MID) "Audio system-linked display" (the one for the music note icon) showing then the orange HD with the number 1 indicates that your radio is tuned to an HD FM radio station that in addition to broadcasting an analog FM radio signal it is also broadcasting a digital FM radio content signal on the station's digital channel 1. Since the 1 is boxed, it is that FM station's digital channel 1 that is the source of the audio playing through your car's speakers. (HD FM stations can have up to, I think, user tunable 3 channels and the box will enclose the channel selected. One channel will be the digital simulcast of the analog broadcast content and the additional channels (if any) will be broadcasting different digital signal content.) While a digital FM channel's audio is usually of higher audio quality that the analog signal simulcast, it is a highly compressed digital audio that has much lower quality than you would get from uncompressed digital audio off of a music CD for the same music.

Some HD FM radio stations also include broadcasting digitally encoded information on local weather and traffic information that navigation equipped ESs can use to display local weather conditions/map overlays and traffic conditions on the map display.
