2023 ES300h, happened twice now and wondering if anyone knows a reason for this. Shut car off, in park, exited car and went to lock using the handle button. Each time the car didn’t lock, just a long beep, maybe 3 to 5 seconds. Checked all doors were closed, trunk closed, nothing seemed amiss except it wouldn’t lock. Left it at that, next time I drove, short time later, when I stopped and left the car, it locked as normal. Any ideas?

 

Happened to me once when I had left my key in the car. “Smart” car was smarter than its owner!

 

Yes, if the leave the key inside, it will not lock, just beeeeeep.
Maybe if the key was too close to the inside prox. antenna, it may recognise it as inside.

 

Didn’t seem any different than any other time, but if it happens again, I will try to be further away, thank you.

 

Yep that's generally a sign one of the fobs is still in the car.

 

Mystery solved, my wife was with me both times, and unbeknownst to me, left her purse in the car with her keys in it. Thank you guys.
