On the 2019 ES 350 I bought less than a month ago, the inside door handle on the front passenger door—all of a sudden—will no longer open the door, though it does operate the lock button. The door still unlocks and opens from the outside, using either the fob or the handle.
This issue appears from time to time in the archives, on different models, but I don’t see a consensus “fix.” Suggestions? The warranty is still in effect.
probably cable undone/unlatched. maybe someone worked on it before.. tint shop? stereo shop? you can remove the door panel and have a look. i would inspect this for you in 30 seconds or less. or your money back!
Something tells me that if this suddenly started being a problem (was working correctly earlier), then this probably isn't the issue, BUT, maybe look at this. I experienced this when I was putting the door panel back on after fiddling around inside:
The door latch is mechanically operated via a cable from the interior handle. In my case, this little ball attachment wasn't seated correctly when I put the door back together, so the cable wasn't connected to the latch.
If you want to take a peek, removing the door panel is super simple - I think maybe two screws, then just pulling the panel off. Plenty of instructions on here somewhere.
Thank you for the heads up! You were spot on. I had the windows tinted last Wednesday and the problem appeared two days later. When I called the tint shop, I got about three words into my description of the problem and he told me he knew immediately what it was: The tech forgot to reconnect that mechanism. They will take care of it straight away.

That's great! Now post some tint pics when you get a chance. I'm always curious to see what percentage people go with
Ceramic tint on the four windows and the back window. 35% light transmission on all; “legal” minimum in Alabama is 32%.
Not a great pic. Sorry about that.
My question is why the heck they had to open the door panel to tint the side window on an ES?
It's very common to remove door panels to tint windows. Some cars it's more or less required, others not. This is a total nothing-burger issue. My door panels were removed for tint also, I know because the little felt washers on the trim clips were missing on some of them.

You're welcome. I knew it was likely a worker... usually tint.

Experienced tinter here, I also tinted my ES. The front sweeps are deep and tight and to do the job right, you need to pull the sweeps. It's easier and less stressful to just pull the entire panel.
