ES 300h 2024 wireless charger
#16
From the 2024 Owner's Manuals (USA AND CANADA ONLY pdf version), page 286 for the ES 300H version and page 275 for the ES 250, ES350 version:
...If the charging coil inside a portable device moves outside of the charge area, charging will automatically stop. ...
When the charger power supply is off, the Qi logo will disappear from the 8/12.3 inch center display and the charging pad indicator light will be off.

The Qi wireless charger in 2023 and later model year ESs has no physical on/off power switch. That said, the "new" charging pad has a device charging coil sensing function that will only turn on charging when a device's charging coil is within the charging pad's charging area.
From the 2024 Owner's Manuals (USA AND CANADA ONLY pdf version), page 286 for the ES 300H version and page 275 for the ES 250, ES350 version:
There's also a diagram showing the charging area in the center of the charging pad with dimensions of approximately 2.8 inches by 2.4 inches.
When the charger power supply is off, the Qi logo will disappear from the 8/12.3 inch center display and the charging pad indicator light will be off.

This is not a buying decision. Get the model ES that you want, and see how the charging pad deals with your phone.
It may not get warm, which might indicate no problem. Or, some phone cases are too thick to allow for wireless charging.
Or, just cut out a piece of black felt and place it over the charger: now you have a nice, soft, convenient shelf for your phone.
My problem with the charging pad was that it was too large for my (swell new) iPhone 15 Pro. On corners, the phone would slide around, clicking on the little raised edge. I solved that problem with a few little black adhisive-backed rubber bumpers so that the phone stayed put, and stayed aligned with the charging spot.
(I used the black felt to line the little pocket for my prescription sunglasses to make the inside surface a little softer.)
Finally, you say you don't use phone chargers, but with wireless CarPlay in the ES, you may find that you use your phone in the car more than before, and charging it wirelessly (slowly) doesn't hurt (I don't think).
