Default Chunk of rubber on shocks missing

Was filling up my tires yesterday and noticed that there was a piece of rubber missing on my shock springs. I'm probably calling it wrong but you see what I mean in the picture. Is this something I have to be worried about?

It looks almost like something has rubbed against the spring.

Looks ok to me, most spring out there doesn't even have rubber outside, just painted metal, maybe the tire rubbed against it, but you got a lot of s***t splashed up to that shock and fender liner, I'd wash them.
