Good article. I’m pleased with the quality of the paint on my ES 350 but I’d like a few more color options. Recently, I saw a new Porsche in a beautiful light blue. Maybe a deep burgundy maroon color, perhaps a very dark green that almost looks black at times. Emerald, flat gray and a few others are be possibilities. I’m just bored with black, white, iridium so much of the time. I’d like the Lexus blue to be even darker and deeper.

IMO, Lexus has always offered the classiest paint colors, but other brands have been catching up/surpassing.
Had LS430 in 90s, black cherry pearl color, that garnered tons of compliments from friends/strangers alike.

Weird that only three of the seven reasons have to do with the quality of material and workmanship. The rest are just pushing why their mostly-monochromatic choices of colors is a good thing.

There is a lack of variety of colors for the current ES, both outside and inside. I assume it's cost cutting, Our cars cost much less than competitors. There are sacrifices associated with that, and I'd rather sacrifice variety than quality, but I'd still like more varied choices.

I love the paint quality on both of our cars. Eleven years and 150k miles combined and ONE paint chip.

Three cars now I went out planning to buy a silver but ended up with pearl white when I saw it in person. There’s definitely something to color design based on how the car looks on the ground as opposed to a paint sample. Lexus does a better job than most making colors that compliment their cars and look good in multiple lighting situations. I don’t know if anyone makes a better pearl white than Lexus.

That is a great color - I almost bought my ES in that but was fearful it wouldn't age well so right back to white I went The blue is still gorgeous.

So true. I've always been intrigued by the difference color can make. Any particular model can look better or worse by a dark or light color. Sometimes a car looks bigger or smaller, or certain body features seem more attractive or highlighted better. It's remarkable what a difference it can make.

Lexus colours look rich (Eminent white pearl, Ultrasonic blue mica, Caviar...) but the problem is they are not durable, especially when we talk about the rock chips.
I know that they use this soft self-healing final layer but it should not be used on the front bumper. Bumpers, especially the front one should be painted with the most durable clear coat.

I guess we've been lucky in that regard:

I don’t have a rock chip problem either and I drive in plenty of heavy traffic on freeways.

This must be a snow belt thing, I live in Texas.
