Timing Chain Cover Oil Leak
I’m considering a new or slightly used ES350. However, I’ve read that the 2GR-FKS engine is vulnerable to oil leaks at the timing chain cover, and that a repair costs several thousand. Has this issue been corrected in recent years?

According to him, the 2GR-FKS oil leak issues including the timing chain cover leaks, were production problems (and not design problems) in the first production year or two and almost all but gone in the third production year (2017 was the first production year). The production oil leaks if a 2GR-FKS engine has them pretty much will show up by the first or second oil change maintenance events (and thus repair will be a warranty covered repair).
Since the current generation ES 350 didn't start production until the latter part of 2018 when production oil leak issues where on the tail end of the reduction to non-occurance curve, whatever early days timing cover production oil leak issues other 2017 and 2018 Toyota models using 2GR-FKS engines may have had didn't occur or occur often enough to become a common knowledge item of an issue with the ES 350.

Older thread, but I'm confused by your comment that "2017 was the first production year".
According to wikipedia the 2GR-FKS came out in 2015: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_GR_engine
In the ES it first appeared in 2018. I'm particularly interested in the GS350 and was originally considering 2017's.
