Bought ES300H supposedly CPO
#16
I recently (less than one month ago) purchased a 2020 ES 350 Premium as a CPO. Within this timeframe, the trunk has flooded and the battery was found to be at about 50% CCA. I've had to spend $500 for an independent car mechanic to evaluate the car thoroughly, and spend another 8-10 hours of my personal time to drive to and from the dealership that I purchased it from. Dealer was able to rectify both issues for free, thankfully.
I work in service (for medical devices/in a hospital) and after a technical approach of things, I just think that Toyota/Lexus does not have a great 161-point inspection system. For instance, a 70% CCA for a 700 CCA battery (such as those in the ES 350) would pass for CPO. As a random nobody, I wouldn't even consider selling a 490CCA/700CCA to another human being. Funny enough, Lexus Service calls to replace the battery at ~490 CCA! I'm quite surprised that a major company known for reliability gave this the green light. Furthermore, the 161-point inspection gets a bit vague. In the case of my flooded trunk, the 161-point inspection notes to check the release levers for the trunk (inspection item 85), and check the trunk lid operation (inspection item 91). The fact that they don't do a water test or call to check the trunk seals while certifying a Lexus, is baffling to me.
As another commenter noted, I think CPO is a bit worthless. You buy four free services, but otherwise it quite literally is just an extension of the factory waranty.

Pole Position
I had an almost identical experience as the OP on a CPO 2008 ES350. Once I found water in the trunk, I inspected further and found the entire passenger side of the car had been side-swiped! Upon notifying the dealer, they were embarrassed and rolled-back the deal. They also gave us a great deal on a new 2011.

Just give the car back to them. Plenty of others to choose from.
Dealers need to know if they misrepresent something, there is a real possibility of it being returned.
