My car came with Lexus transparent door edge guards. I’d like to install the colored type. Do the old ones need to be removed first or can the colored plastic ones be put on right on top of the existing transparent ones?

The old clear ones will need to come off for a proper fit. This is just my opinion but those plastic ones catch dirt and is an eye sore to me. I removed mine as I much prefer the clean lines and I'm very careful opening and closing the doors.
BTW, when I removed my colored ones, they didn't feel like plastic. They were very malleable, felt more like aluminum. Upon removal, several of those pieces deformed. Rear doors will be very tricky to install compared to the fronts.

Thanks. I think I’ll just keep my old clear ones. They’re showroom new and I think I’ll just leave well enough alone.
