Carrying bikes with an ES: What to switch off
A month or two ago, there was a thread here about carrying bikes on the back of the ES. Having done it, I know you have to switch off a couple of the safety nannies or they'll slam on the brakes in the mistaken belief that you're about to rear-end something. (My apologies for not resurrecting that thread rather than starting a new one; I looked for it in vain.)
There are two. One is PKSA. I don't know the name of the other one right underneath it, but it's signified by a little image of a car backing into a pylon. You use the directional arrows on the left side of the steering wheel to go down into the settings menu, denoted by a gear visual. You select each of these, use the right arrow to select "on/off," then push the central OK button to switch it from On to Off.
When you do so, you'll know you've succeeded because yellow images of each will appear to the right of the gauge cluster as warning lights to tell you they're off. If you don't, you'll know you failed the first time you start to back up, when the car screams "BRAKE!" in giant red and white letters on the dash and violently slams the brakes on.
When you're done using the bikes and bike carrier, just reverse the procedure to turn them back on again.
