Steering Assist + Blind Spot Monitor
Hi all,
Very excited because my new ES300h should be arriving in two weeks. While waiting, I have been perusing this forum and looking at lots of YouTube videos. One video led me to read up on Steering Assist + Blind Spot Monitor in the Owner's Manual PDF. Below I have pasted the relevant section:
"Vehicles with Blind Spot Monitor: When the system determines that the vehicle might depart from its lane and that the pos- sibility of a collision with an overtaking vehicle in the adjacent lane is high, the steering assist function will operate even if the turn signals are operating."
As I read this, the following should occur:
1. As I drive, the BSM will illuminate in the right or left rear view mirror if a car is in my blind spot.
2. If I signal for a lane change and there is a car in my blind spot the BSM will flash in the right or left rear view mirror.
3. If I signal for a lane change and there is a car in my blind spot the lane departure alert will trigger and the steering assist function will attempt to keep me in my current lane to avoid a collision.
So 2019 ES300h drivers: is my understanding of this functionality correct? If so, this would be a great thing. Thanks in advance for all comments.

I have this in my GS and I believe your understanding is correct.

That's all correct. I never use any steering or lane keep assist though.

Wow, I had no idea Lexus offered this feature in any of their vehicles. They don't really advertise a lot of features/specs, which is strange. I had this in my previous Infiniti as "Blind Spot Intervention".
JDR76, in regards to Steering Assist functioning when a vehicle is in the blind spot, even with a turn signal activated... this is not a feature on our GS'. The new ES does have this feature though & it's very explicitly stated that it functions this way in the owner's manual. The GS owner's manual makes zero references to this feature. I think it's a part of the newer generation of features, likely on all the newer models that also have Lane Tracing Assist, which we also do not have. We do have Steering Assist, it's just not linked to the Blind-Spot Monitor.
I'm happy to see Lexus adding this to their cars. I hated that it was one of the features I'd be giving up when switching from my Q50S to the GS. I don't think any models had this at the time.

On typical city streets where I do most of my driving, lane keep is at best annoying. It's constantly tugging at the wheel due to the poor/lack of lane markings. I leave it turned off unless I'm cruising the highway.

I find it annoying everywhere and that includes the mode that just beeps but doesn't effect the steering wheel. Mine is off all the time.

Once you get it, you'll wondered how you survived without it. To me, BSM is a game changer in the safety arena. I'd expect that in a few years you will see it on all vehicles.

The blind spot monitor system works well on this car and i actually now prefer it to my older veh where it would also beep if you activated the signal w something in that area. One issue they all struggle with is multi turn lanes when you activate signal and there is a car next to you turning as well.
