It's the placebo effect. Similar to when you think your car drives better after it has been washed.

It is, indeed, a waste of money.
Sderman states it very succinctly. Use the recommended fuel and that is 87 octane top tier fuel...
Absolutely! I remember an octane thread awhile back where someone posted with 91 octane they thought also their transmission shifted smoother.

I hear what you are saying, but, I feel that with 91 octane gasoline, the arthritis in my knee is very much reduced.

I could see that being the case. https://tenor.com/view/the-flintstones-gif-11422386

Spend a little more and use 91 premium, better performance, better gas mileage, car will be happier.

Others will say you're just throwing away money.

Google. Plenty of websites say you don't need to pay for premium gas if the manufacture doesn't require premium gas.

I always laugh when people say to use premium gas on a vehicle not set up to run that. The gas fairy is supposed to magically change the ECM settings to ensure 91 octane improves performance and mpg.

Interesting aside about gas...

I recently took a 450 mile trip. 225 miles each way. I filled up at the local Shell station with 91 and got 33 mpg on the way there. On the way back traffic was horrible so I stopped to eat and fill up. I could only find a Chevron so I filled up with 91 again and got back on the road. In worse traffic I got 37 mpg on the way home.

Hybrid? How else would you get 37.

Not true. Lexus ES is engineered to run on 87 octane fuel. You can put 91, 93, 94, even101 octane in your car and it would run the same but you'd just be wasting your money.

BTW, there are numerous threads and pages and pages regarding this question. Did you do a search before posting?
