Merged premium fuel threads - is higher than 87 Octane needed or useful?

There are some domestic issues as well - BP’s refinery in Indiana, the biggest refinery in the US is down due to power issues and they’re apparently having delays getting it all restarted. Additionally this is the time of year when refineries start making adjustments for moving from winter to summer blend gasoline which is a slow process and is delaying domestic production. These are both temporary but are having an affect.

I use regular, always have. I was referring to your comment that premium burns "cleaner" than regular. I have never heard that.

Those were the days we used the timing light to manually adjust timing for the type fuel we used. The HP cars did not run well retarding timing so hi test was a must. I ran premium in my LS430 for several years and when gas prices got high I tried regular and have not switched back after 15 years. I can tell a little difference in power but not missed and my highway gas mileage is around 25 whereas it was 26 with premium. Computer does a great job with the timing so no knocking or pinging.
