I can attest to the tin can 2019 ES. The2019 Camry has the same non-solid doors for 25k less.

Solution: buy an Avalon, spend $1000 and deaden the whole car and go on a vacation to Italy.

Had to scratch my plan to order a 2023 ES UL after spending time with a 2020 Luxury and a brand new 2022 UL last Saturday. The bottom of the doors flutter noticeably on the outside when closed with a normal amount of force. I get weight savings and all but find it very un-Lexus like. Strike 2 was the semi-aniline leather, which isn’t even close to as nice as the semi-aniline on the LS cars. Way, way less nice on the ES and it’s a shame. Other than these items, it’s a nice platform with good comfort and power, room, etc.

Yeah I've studied the doors. They do flutter on the bottoms. This can be reduced about 50% with rubber backed sticky mats. You can see the factory already uses such solutions on towards the top. So I just cut my own and added it towards the bottom. It makes it a lot better. It's still noticeable if you look close.

Issue is the doors have a lot of "skin" or surface area so lots of sheet metal to flap around. The mat just helps dampen the vibration.

Well...of course its not as nice as whats on the LS cars, the LS cars are twice as expensive.

The ES is the entry level luxury sedan, you can't expect it to be anything like the flagship LS. If you want an LS, I would buy a used one if you can't pony up for a new one.

I know! Like, why wouldn't the $50,000 ES have the same quality as the $100,000 LS? lol

I don't know about comparison to the LS, but I personally think the quality of the semi-aniline leather on the ES UL is very good. Soft to the touch, nice and smooth, not a thick glossy coating like cheaper leathers. I do think the seat could use more padding like the LS has, but that's not the upholstery's fault.

Still, it's your money. If you don't like it, no matter what the reason, you're right not to buy it.

I don’t understand what kind of mat and where it should be placed.

I have the door flutter and I don’t like it. The sheet metal is just too thin.

You put it on the outer door skin interior, just look for the most wide open area where it's just all paper thin sheet metal and put some mat on it. It's the same stuff audio guys use. you can get it on amazon. i think it's called rubber butyl mat. i have loads of it in my garage, bought a box for like $25-30. you just need a small square. if you pop off the door panel you can see where the manufacturer uses the same technique on a large open area of the door skin, except they only use one piece cause of cost. the door has tons of blank area for these squares. you can even double it up to give it more coverage. just know you're also adding some decent weight.

Thicker sheet metal wouldn't really solve anything given the size of the door. the ES just has massive doors. I think the better way is just use some stamped steel supports on the inside. The car naturally has one of these in the form of the door beam that the door skin is glued to.

See the factory metal rubber backed patch? Just add more of those in more areas. Remove the speaker temporarily to stick your hand in to stick the patches on. easy.

BE EXTREMELY careful with touching/pressing on the patches. The metal is SHARP and will slice your hand. PRESS but do not rub.

i've done this to all my cars for the past 10 cars or so. makes a nice difference.

The 6ES didn’t have this issue. The sheet metal is thin as well. Most cars cheaper than the ES have solid closing doors. Sure the doors are large, but Lexus could have easily and cheaply fixed the problem.

6ES is a POS (compared) in its own right though. its latest iteration, even in its most revised form is a hodge podge of bandaids. TNGA is really where Toyota/Lexus cars shine, in most aspects.

When I brought my 6th gen ES home, the first thing I noticed was how cheap the door closing sound was. Compared to the car I had just traded in, a 2010 Maxima. The Maxima had a much more solid feeling and door closing sound.

The door didn’t flutter as described. Not debating other aspects of the 6ES.

TNGA is not without flaws. But that is a discussion for another thread. Eg You can’t get an get flat floor in the rear with TNGA.
