Default Homelink Garage Door Opener Doesn't Work more than 10 to 15 Feet Away

My Homelink Garage Door Opener doesn't work more than 10 to 15 feet away. My 2004 ES worked from about 25 or 30 feet from the same door. Does anyone have any idea why my new car doesn't work from farther away?

Sounds like there may be a signal strength issue? Mine works from at least 30 feet away. I hit it when I turn the corner in our alley more than a house away. By the time I pull up in my driveway the garage door is almost completely open. Much stronger actually than my old garage door clicker.

Perhaps your dealer can test the signal?

Did you program it while parked inside? Otherwise, Clear the memory, and try programing it while parked inside your garage. You can also press and hold the button ans see if the door opens from longer distance.

I agree.. give this a shot before going on to anythiing else... Do you have a clear line of sight when trying to operate the opener? Anything at all blocking you? I ask because my driveway is 185 feet long and I usually hit the door opener before I'm even in the drive and it always works. Good luck with finding the issue.

Why does that matter?

Same for me and if I'm not facing the garage, I back in, I need to be within inches of the rear bumper hitting the garage door before it'll respond and even then it's not 100%.

How do I clear the memory and redo?

Do you have LED bulbs installed in the opener?

Certain LED bulbs interfere with your homelink signals which causes that issue.

This is probably not your situation, but we have been in our house 30 yrs and have old Raynor garage doors/motors with no rolling codes. About 10 years ago the transmitter on one of the doors became weak. I could open the door from inside the garage, but could not open if outside. Just replaced with a new transmitter from the local Raynor dealer and was fine.

It should work fine from that far away. Mine works from 3 or 4 houses down the road. I'm interested in the LED light bulb theory, though.

Can you take it to a dealer? They'll tell you it's working as expected, but if they know that, they can tell you what the specs say the signal strength is supposed to be (I bet they still can't because they never looked). Then find a ham radio store and have it measured. They still have those, right?
