They were cool five years ago. Not so much anymore and if you don't park in tight spots routinely, they are pretty useless.

I’d agree with that. I have them on my 2017 Model S and the only purpose they serve is to give us a bit more room when walking between the cars in the garage.

I actually back in to my garage, so the passenger side faces my wife's car. When I exit the drivers side door, I walk towards the front of the car an around the front and up the passenger side to enter the house. As I pass the passenger side mirror, I fold it in. When I come out to drive off, I repeat the process in reverse and open the mirror up as I pass by. Just saved $4000.

That said, I would love them. My Genesis G80 had them and I really liked the convenience of having them in park lots.

I wouldn't spend $400 let alone $4,000 on that. Our RX has them. Whoopee.

It would appear that changing out the original non folding mirrors for folding ones is probably not such a good idea (if it could be done at all) ... However, almost ANYTHING is possible for the right amount of money...

I asked my friend who used to be a master tech for Benz if it was possible and he said: "of course, just need the parts." I'm willing to pay around $2k to have that feature since I have use for it on a daily basis. We just need to find out what parts exactly are needed.

Would that mod affect the Lexus warranty?

I would think anything touching the electrical system gives them an opening to dispute a warranty claim if there's the slightest chance there is a connection.

Has anyone been in the '19 ES with techstream yet? Does the ECU have the setting for mirrors already in it?

Yes It does. If any one confirm the the wire of the motor is there on the door that will be so easy to do

I'm not one to try this myself. But I think I'll check with a body shop, I'm sure that they could get this done if it's possible. I will check to see the cost.

Based on the cost of the parts (motorized side view mirrors and switches), I'm unlikely to spend over a $1000.

The folding mirrors are VERY useful for me with very tight parking between my cars in my garage. If fact I waited to purchase the 2020 model instead of the 2019 just to get the mirrors and Android Auto.
