i used the factory navigation in my car yesterday for the 2nd. time since i bought it a year ago. I was going west on a state route in Pennsylvania to a friend's house. The nav had me get off at an exit - not for his house - go back 3 miles eastbound on the same route, then put me back on the same route westbound for 5 miles to the proper exit for my destination...
WTH was that all about? I never had that happen before. Makes me very dubious regarding the accuracy of said navigation unit. No roadwork going on, and it's an old road with no recent changes... Time to get the portable Garmin out as it has never failed me even in western Europe...
Note: I posted this by mistake in the 6th. gen forum...

There were no toll roads involved. Route 422 west to Limerick, PA... But I will take your advice and check the settings anyway. I would use Google maps or Waze but I don't have unlimited data use on my phone and it burns it up... May be as Lesz says just a glitch that won't reoccur. We'll see... Thanks Michael...

How much data do you get a month? And how much does Google Maps and/or Waze use up?

Have had similar things happen but hopefully thank goodness not a lot. Occasionally more for just seeing how long it will take to get to my destination when I know the route will use the nav system. It will send me in a weird longer than needed route. I wonder how many times this has happened when I do not know the area I am traveling.

I've tested Lexus Navigation on several local routes that I know very well. On three different trips it took a circuitous route longer than the correct route determined by Google Maps at the very same time -- I had Lexus Nav running on my 12.3-inch display and Google Maps running on my cell phone. And, of course, Lexus Nav paid no attention to traffic conditions.
There is no question about the superiority of Google Maps, and it's fascinating that even Apple CarPlay includes Google Maps as a built-in option in addition to Apple's own nav system.

Toyota/Lexus should also update the very outdated look of the navigation. I wonder if they do so for newer models if we will be able to update ours. This look has been what they have since 06.

I disagree. My 19 is a big change compared to my wife's 17. Maybe you want Google Earth from Audi?

Definitely a programming error. It always wants me to exit the QEW in Burlington, ON at Guelph Line on a west bound exit and then get back on after crossing the street. Has nothing to do with tolls, traffic.
it tries to do something similar on 427 South where there is no entrance onto the highway.

If you're worried about data consumption, do note that Google Maps supports the download of "offline maps" which you can do on Wi-Fi (user-defined areas or the route). The navigation will keep running if you lose cell data and (in theory) will use less if you DO have cell data active during the trip and/or predefined areas...
If your route is through a 'rural' area, Google Maps will prompt you that the download option is available -- to keep navigating in the event that cell coverage is lost (I suspect that Google knows where cell coverage is spotty -- sure wish the carriers themselves would take note and do something about it
).
The offline maps expire in 30-days and there's an option to refresh them.
