Your engine looks different than the 7th gen ES. Air inlet on the other side, coolant recovery tank different?

I never bothered doing this myself. Instead, I was in for an oil change today and asked the dealer to clean it out. Seems there's an easier way to do it from the bottom when the car is on a lift. In any event, they are very accomodating I must say. Prestige Lexus Ramsey NJ.

Thanks for the tips to remove those clips, basically get your nail or something small push the center of the clip in, start from the most outer clip left or right, then lift the whole plastic shiled up (that why start from one corner) the clip will pulled out really easy. To insert make sure the to push the center piece of clip all the way up before pitting back in, like the above picture.

I did it today, I take off the top cover and use a shop vac with a small head/ long attachment to vacuum all of the craps out, I had to also use a small plastic stick to stir those trash in between few time to loosen them out because they stuck there so good, been 2 years 30k miles mostly highway so a lot of small rocks and craps collected there, all of the rain, heat, cold hardening them up.

I don’t think put a leaf blower in there a good idea, where those craps gonna go to if you blast them? Only exit way is the front grill, you blow it all rocks and craps will be all over the place, make it worse. Same goes to splash a pressure washer there, unless you have only dust. Vaccum in my oppinion is the quickest way to go. Here is the shop vac I used:

I also replaced cabin air filter and engine air filter. While doing engine filter I dropped a screw bit underneath, so I went ahead and removed the splash cover underneath the engine to get that bit out, also to see if I can get better access to the area to get those craps out in the front grill. NOPE once you removed like 8-10 screws/bolts typed, 2 clips and 1 bolds the splash is out just to reveal another cover lmao, if u remove this cover/shield I think the radiator may fall lol. Only way from there to get full access to clean the behind grill area is to remove the font grill/bumper, few more screws/bolts to go but I didnt bother because I vacuumed 90% of those trash out already. Kudo to that genius designer at Lexus who put a tiny dip right in front across the whole radiator to collect all the trash and small rocks, I want that stuff he smoked while designing it lol

This is a great topic. Here is my $180 lesson. I was driving in Chantilly, VA. The check engine light came on, also got a "Active grille shutter inactive" warning. Sounds scary right? Pulled up to Pohanka Lexus, terrified why i got a CEL.

15 mins later, tech comes out said it was done, it was just a bunch of debris preventing something from closing, all he had to do was remove sand and leaves. Desk person said $180 pls. I said $180 to pull out sand and leaves? he said no, silly, $180 is to diagnose, we did the cleaning for free!

Will never return to that rip-off dealer!

I did this on my 2019. It took about 15 minutes. Remove the clips. take off the shield, clear out the debris and reverse the job. Done...

Does anyone have the part number for these clips? I broke one today while removing them to clean out the leaves.

Good question - they are fragile.

All that black plastic also turns white, or gets spotted with dried water spots etc. it's going to be an eye sore over time without some maintenance. Unless you have the F Sport which has smaller holes that are hard to see through.

i can fit my hand through the standard grill.. lol
