Question Illuminated trunk and door sills perform any useful function?

When I check the VIN numbers on the Lexus site for in-stock cars at dealers in my area, the cars often have illuminated trunk and/or door sills. (Marked "Port" - which means, I gather, that they were added by the dealer to pack the price.) Do either of these features perform any useful function at all - or are they just decoration? Thanks for all the help on my other questions!.

Not a damn thing except the line the dealers pocket with extra $$$.

I have both on my ‘19 ESh UL and like them both. I work a lot of night shifts and they do help light up the trunk/door areas. I think they are mainly for appearances though.

They are just for appearance. I installed the door sills myself. They are plug and play and look very nice.

I also installed the sills myself. An easy job... They serve no real purpose IMO but they look great at night. If you like accessories you'd like the door sills... Several dealers offer them at a bargain online and it takes about one hour to install them... I think I still have the instructions if you're interested.

Do you care about the function or are you concern about the add-up price? Just ignore it and offer the price you want. If you are not rush, you will get the car for your price.

Good point about helping light up the trunk area. Does this generation of ES have a decent trunk light mounted so that it truly illuminates the trunk? (My old ES has a wimpy light mounted in one side wall of the trunk. It is blocked by anything sitting in the trunk near that side.)

Wimpy IMO. When I first opened my trunk at night getting groceries a few weeks ago I didn’t even think there was a light and had to look for it.

I can see the door sills but how often do you really open your trunk?

Every time I go to work. About 4 times a day minimum.

If you have the instructions, that would be great.

Just thought way to much money for a decorative item so I opted for spending $16 on these. Not only are they brighter then the old bulbs but they shine down on the road or parking lot to illuminate puddles or anything thing else.
