But like I said, I agree that this happens all the time.
I'm virtually certain that the sales manager is lying about what happened, but I'm also virtually certain that the lie is deeper than what you suggest.

I don't believe that any dealer or body shop would even consider taking a bumper or other body panel off of one vehicle and putting it on another vehicle. As I said in my earlier post, there is virtually no chance that the paint would match (unless the car is a non-metallic black) if they did that. Beyond that, doing so would require removing and re-installing bumpers on two cars, and the labor cost of doing so would make such a process impractical.

My best guess is that the bumper on the OP's car was damaged, either in shipping or on the dealer's lot and that the dealer did a less than good job of doing the repairs. The less than perfect fit of the bumper is an indication that there was damage below the bumper cover (to the bumper bracket(s), to the bumper clips, or to the bumper shock absorbers), and they didn't properly repair that damage.

I can tell you, when I got my 2015 LS460 the front bumper was damaged. I asked them to swap the bumpers with another car on the lot and they would not. So, I suspect you are correct.

That dealership is amazing, normally asking to swap wheels/tires off of a new car for a set of tires from another new inventory unit is met with absolute resistance and this dealer is ok with removing entire body panels......Wow generous af.

*sarcasm*

So dealers, and manufacturers know stuff gets damaged in transport, its just the nature of the game. Now by law (at least from what I have been told) they have a damage threshold where if the damage exceeds a certain percentage of the cost of the vehicle (last I recall it was 3% but this was about a decade ago) they are legally obligated to disclose this to the owner at the time of sale.

Now what this means is up to you and your legal counsel if you need to address these concerns.

In regards to the repair, if your bumper doesnt fit after being repaired I`d want to know why thats the case?

The part could be off. I had the front bumper replaced on my 2010 ES350 and it had an area that didn't quite fit right that sounds very similar, and it was an OEM real Lexus bumper. The shop took it off and showed me the stamp. It was just formed wrong.

Did they then replace that bumper?

They repaired and repainted the bumper that was on the car I bought, you'd never be able to tell.

So, did you get the (repaired) car today? If so, what's the verdict? All good, not so good, unhappy with the finished job? Let us know and BTW you should identify the dealer in St. Louis for our fellow forum members so we can avoid the same situation... GOOD LUCK!

I just saw your previous post when you got the car and about the bumper. Too bad and it appears that they don't give a *****...
