It's such an annoying thing honestly!

Yep. I would understand if they included AA in the next year model, but who the heck changes and adds features half way into the model year?! That makes zero sense and basically punishes customers who purchased the vehicle earlier in the year.

I think that the train has left the station on having AA installed in 2019 ES cars. Lexus has made it clear that they will not be providing it under any circumstance. I don't get it if it's simply a matter of software changes. Especially if it's been done in Espana and Australia without issues.

I think it will actually happen by the time we've all dumped our ES7

Well I have no plans to dump my 2019 ES anytime soon. Refresh, Gen 8, or not... Just passed 6200 miles, was 2 years old in December... Hardly used it due to pandemic last year...

Yep barely broken in. Mine a bit more - 32K on the clock been driving it every day other than roughly one month back when COVID first hit. I for sure will not keep mine beyond the power train warranty with concerns over the trans.

I purchased my 2019 model near the end of 2019, not knowing that AA would come out in the last batch of 2019 produced near the years end. I complained and begged Lexus to do the right thing and offer retrofit to 2019 owners as I use Android, but they said no. So 2 years later, I searched for an alternative solution that doesn't involve taking the whole dash apart. Ladies and gents, I found it! This plug and play little android box is miles better than Android Auto as it offers a full featured android experience. It also has wireless Carplay and wireless AA. Despite a few bugs, I'm totally enjoying my new in-car android experience for about $200. Suck on that Lexus!

What box is this? I'm also in Toronto, did you get it locally?

No, I got it from AliExpress, it was around $180 USD shipped during the 11.11 sales days. It has a SD card slot where I store my music, and the playback quality is much better than the onboard USB flash drive method. Search carplay ai box.

Awesome, are you going to share anymore info? Like where we could get one? What's it called, who makes, you know, the basics.

I don't want to advertise for them, but you can search "carplay ai box" on AliExpress. There are multiple sellers selling the same item. I believe one type is branded Carlinkit, but there are other ones that aren't branded but are essentially the same thing.

Somebody will complain the cupholder has to be left open Kidding aside, this looks like a good solution and normally I don't give a rat's behind about AA. But with full Waze integration, it might be worth it just for that.

Yea, i have an older iphone for carplay too, but the fact that my regular android phone can't receive/make call through the car while carplay is engaged is what made me determine to look for solutions. The iphone is now sitting at home.

Yes, it will work as long as you have wired carplay.

The beauty of full android is you can customize the looks of apps to suit the look of the interior. In my case, brown to match my flaxen interior and Lexus headunit's native brown theme.
