Question Active Noise Control with Subwoofer

Hi Fellow ES Drivers,

I know there's a thread or two about sound systems in the ES but I cannot find this specific info.

2019 ES 350, standard audio

I'd like to upgrade the sound system - most likely by just adding a sub woofer in the trunk OR I may upgrade components as well.

My question is that I know the car has the active noise cancellation, which will interfere with aftermarket sound systems. Has anyone figured a way to disable this permanently?

The audio shops I've called have no clue.

I came across the same issue when my subs were installed last year. I also called multiple audio shops and no one was able to provide a solution then. I'm shocked that a year later a permanent solution isn't available from audio shops.

I found that ANC is only active when the cabin is closed. Lightly tapping on the "tilt-up" button will disable the ANC while the sunroof remains closed, PM if you want more info.

Appreciate this trick but that's a Mickey Mouse way of handling the issue. I don't want to add a system unless this can be properly addressed. Does the ANC even make a real difference in the amount of noise coming in?

I'm going with no on making much of a difference.

I mean a Camry or Avalon are within 1-3db of the ES at the same speed and they don't use ANC.

Maybe Lexus doesn't have it tuned as aggressive as other manufacturers. Kia cadenza acura rlx and quieter with ANC.

I see ANC as a band aid for the noise source and cheaper way to make a car quieter.

...
Do you even know what 3 dB equates to?

I have no idea what you're asking? It takes at least 10db to be perceived as twice as loud. A 3db difference is only double the sound pressure.

Anyone know if a Lexus Tech can turn off the ANC with their computer?

so how do we disable the active noise cancelation? What wire, fuse , or device can i alter? I dont want to pay lexus to software disable it. So far i have been able to avoid feedback when i open the sunroof before turning off the car. (Just the sunroof cover)

You do it the professional E46CT way (he posted the discovery a few months back)

Use Carista dongle and $9.99 subscription (program other features while you're in there) disable in one click =) No getting shops to terrorize your car with pliers and cutters.

just installed an amp,lc2i, and sub in a 23 tx500h will this dongle give me the access i need to disable both anc and asc? ive gotten rid of interference from anc by removing mics but everytime the engine kicks over i get the same feedback until it reverts back to ev. Lexus wont deactivate at the dealership and yes i have deactivated it though the utilities menu. still comes on in "sport" mode tho

You just told me something I didn't know... I had no clue that mine uses ANC...

The noise cancellation only operates between something like 1500-3000 rpm at a low frequency. It’s not fully related to the microphones. You can disable it with the Carista app and dongle inexpensively. On my 300h it doesn’t make an audible difference to me with the sunroof cracked or not so I’m assuming it’s not a very strong system and I’ll happily disable it if I put in a sub.
