Default Sticky residue and substance in sun roof tracks

Good afternoon all. I hope everyone is staying safe. I have a 2019 Lexus ES 350 F sport. I bought the car brand new in November of 2019. I currently have about 12,000 miles on it. The sun roof happens to be working fine but today when I opened it I noticed a sticky white substance in the sun roof tracks. I needed two towels to clean it all up and I didn’t even get it all. After I cleaned it up the sun roof was still working like it should. I was wondering if anyone had this problem or knows what it could be? Thank you.

Might be white lithium grease that someone has possibly used to lubricate the tracks.

I don't know if that's really the right lubricant to use for sun roof tracks, but if someone who wasn't concerned about long term effects and needed a quick fix for a squeaking, binding, and/or hard to operate sun roof slathering the tracks up white lithium grease would provide a quickie fix and whatever long term problems arising from it someone else's problem.

Have you ever complained to the dealer about problems in operating the sun roof?

I never did and still don’t have any problem with the sun roof. Never complained about it because it was never an issue. I just noticed that white substance in the tracks today when I happened to open the sun roof.

It's grease, they apply a generous amount to ensure the tracks don't begin to make noise. I would buy some and add it or take it into the dealership.
