Default Dealer Needs to Recalibrate New Windshield??

I never heard this, but a friend needs to get a replacement windshield. Lexus in Pennsylvania said they subcontract to Safelite, but then the new windshield has to be recalibrated?

Is this a lot of who shot John?

I talked to a private auto glass company a few months ago on another matter. He explained that the windshield cameras DO require calibrating and sometimes the insurance tries to dodge the cost. The safety systems run off the calibration and are absolutely necessary. I found an explanation on a web site by Safelite:

Insurance in most states cover full glass replacement cost, and that includes this miracle recalibration. I've recommended they get Lexus to do the computerized mumbo-jumbo.

Safelite is doing the glass install in Mountain Top, PA on Monday.

Well MOST don't cover your deductible for glass replacement! That means most people will be on the hook for at least $500. I have travelers insurance and they only have a $50 deductible for glass and that's one reason I chose them. Already had the HUD front windshield replaced in my 2016 Z06 Corvette and that was $1200. The Lexus dealer is telling me they think the front windshield on my ES350 is even more! BTW I wouldn't recommend Safelight to my worst enemy. I would ask your local Lexus dealer who they use for windshield replacements.

...well that sucks, the only time I ever needed to replace a windshield was in NY, and it was fully covered, same here in Florida. As for Safelite, I'm not involved with the repair, and was just asking about the recalibration because it came up in conversation. Thanks.

Just had my 2020 300 ES Hybrid Luxury windshield replaced at Lexus Carlsbad. $2,000!!!! yes, it had to be re-calibrated. I have WaWanesa, they farm it out to Safelight, who approved me going to dealer. safelight only pays $700, so I had to pay $1,300. Insurance reimbursed me for all but my deductable. I think Calibration was $450 at dealer. Ouch!!!!
I didn't even have 1,000 miles on it.

I'm feeling it for you. Back in 2004, I bought a new coupe and two days later a piece of metal jumped onto the hood and gouged out a big 'ole crater. It was Ivory Tricoat Pearl, and the dealer's body shop cut me a break and reduced the price, but it was still way up there.
