Smile Audio Shop says Yes to ES and wants $5-7K

Hi Fellow ES Owners.

I have a 2019 ES 350 - stock audio, no ML.

There's a local stereo shop that says they can work on the car, disable the ANC, and make it sound great.

This is what they offered as 2 options:

Hertz Mille Pro
Hertz Mille Pro 6.5" Component Speakers 799.99 x 2
Hertz Mille Power ML 5 Amplifier 749.99
Audison Bit Ten D Digital Sound Processor 549.99
Hertz Mille 12" Subwoofer 499.99
Subwoofer Box (pre made 149.99
4G Amplifier Wiring Kit 124.99
Sound Dampen Trunk 350.00
Sound Dampen Full doors (per pair) 150.00 x 2
Sound System Installation 950.00
Total 5274.93 plus tax

Hertz Mille Legend
Hertz Legend 6.5" Component Speakers 1399.99 x 2
Hertz Mille Power ML 4 649.99
Hertz Mille Power ML1 649.99
Audison Bit One Digital Sound Processor 749.99
Hertz Legend 10" Subwoofer 849.99
Subwoofer Box (pre made ) 149.99
4G Amplifier Wiring Kit 124.99
Sound Dampen Trunk 350.00
Sound Dampen Full doors (per pair) 150.00 x 2
Sound System Installation 950.00
Total 7574.92 plus tax

Anyone here an expert or knowledgeable with car audio and can give some input on these 2 options given the specific car?

Dunno if I could justify going up to the Legend speakers but I'm sure they sound spectacular. Not familiar with Hertz amps, I know someone with Hertz speakers in their Acura the sound is so sweet and smooth. They are not running a high end processor or amp.

Both look like amazing systems and far beyond what almost anyone experiences in a car or otherwise.

Those are fair prices for really good audio gear.
I had a Tundra where I had Morel 3 way components with JL Audio amps and their custom fit dual sub system.
I easily spent 4k and did alot of the work myself so I know the prices above are fair.
Now after back surgery I can't install anymore so I would easily get the pro setup without even blinking.

Good luck fellow audiophile.

Thumbs up

Yup those are some fair prices for the type of components, I spent more than that in my previous car sound quality doesn't come cheap. I like package #2.

Something tells me the ML system won't sound as good as either one of the options this shop is offering me.

That's astonishing given the $7K estimated cost

Looks like a lot of the product is on Crutchfields web site. They offer some really detailed reviews and info on the products.

About the Hertz MLK 1650.3

by Crutchfield'sAlexander H.

Powerful tools for dream sound

Hertz designed their MLK 1650.3 6-1/2" component speaker system for the purist. Handling up to 150 watts RMS, this beautifully crafted set gives you the tools to create something truly special in your vehicle. So dream no more... breathtaking sound is within grasp.

Premium components

The star of this system is the MLCX 2 TW.3 crossover system which allows bi-amplification, tweeter level adjustment, off-axis improvement, and a helpful selection of crossover point adjustment tools. The premium components of this crossover system contribute to the woofer's impressive low-frequency response and to a smooth transition to the extended frequency range of the low-distortion Tetolon dome tweeter.

An aluminum alloy speaker basket with built-in venting provides a solid, smart foundation for impressive performance from the 6-1/2" woofer. Hertz employs a "Boundary Free" rubber surround with its enhanced pressed pulp and cotton fiber woofer to move more air with accuracy. The woofer's V-cone design improves dispersion and helps provide lows you can feel. Superior damping is also key to the sound of these speakers — minimized resonance reduces distortion for a truer-to-life sound.

The Hertz philosophy

Hertz believes that a good speaker should reveal the emotional power of the music you love. That's a high bar, but with their commitment to using premium components and boundary-pushing design, they're more than up to challenge. Comprised of music lovers, Hertz is committed to optimizing your car's sound system for total audio enjoyment.

Makes the ML system look like a real bargain!

I don't know how either of the proposed systems sound, but I certainly wouldn't pay that much for an audio system without at least one in depth listening session with a variety of very high quality music sources.

Another factor that should be considered is how it will sound in the ES. Any serious audiophile knows that the room is a major component in the sound. A great system can sound awful in the wrong room. The ML system is optimized specifically for the ES, including speaker placement. That's going to be very hard for a local audio shop to compete with.

The price is a hard pill to swallow without auditioning how the system might sound, not to mention the high diminished returns. Even the B&W sound upgrade on some BMWs doesn't cost this much.

Make sure you're dead set on keeping that car cause you'll never see that money again. Sounds like a nice list of components though, although some of that is overkill mark-up wise, but that's how they make their money.

I was in love with this car when I first bought it. Then slowly I realized the jerky transmission. It's still a quality car, just wondering if I will in fact keep it for a long time. I probably will...and will swap the system out and put it in the next car if that was to happen.
