Question self-restoring coat from the factory?

I just notice in the owner's manual that my 2019 ES300H has self-restoring coat that lasts up to 8 years. I know it won't do miracle but just wondering if anyone has benefited from this feature. Also wondering if having ceramic coating hurt or help the restoring aspect.

This is just my opinion, but I think that "self healing paint" is more marketing hype than any functional improvement that Lexus has achieved. I now have the third Lexus vehicle that has paint which has been advertised as being self-healing or self-restoring and I cannot tell any difference from any other paint used on previous cars. With that said, I don't believe ceramic coating will hurt anything. Even the dealership offers paint coatings at purchase so they apparently don't consider these products as a risk to the factory paint either.

I agree with TechNut. It's basically marketing and it's not very effective. In my cars with and without it, I've never noticed a difference.

Putting on a ceramic coat will negate the "benefit" of the self-healing coat, as it'll be covered up, but the ceramic coat offers so much better protection against the elements that I think it's totally worth it.

I have the self-healing paint on my 2017 ES. While it will not "heal" deep scratches that penetrate through the clear coat, it is effective in "healing" things like minor surface scratches and polishing swirls.

When I bought that 2017 ES, it came with polishing swirls that were "pre-installed" by the dealer when they were prepping the car. While such swirls and scratches don't instantly heal, over the course of 3 or 4 months, they disappeared. I believe that the healing process can be sped up by parking the car in the sun.

I have it on my 16 RX and can say that i have seen scratches on the hood and doors that disappeared. It was faster on the hood in summer when the car was parked under the sun.

It is good to hear some people are actually benefiting from this and so it wasn't all marketing hype and bs.

I have never seen any scratches dissapear on any of my cars with this coat. I have seen the self healing PPF I have installed on the front work, but I stand by this being ineffective.

Aftermarket PPFs installers seem to be making all sorts of claims about the self-healing aspect. I found this test done by a professional detailer that tested a bunch of these films and the results was rather surprising.

Anyone really want to test this theory? You have a key handy?
