They should also have high oil level light. Highly overfilled engine with oil could do some serious damage

How about both an oil level reading on your dashboard and a dipstick?

they probably dont want to do it because many people will see that dealerships overfill oil.
Manufactures been removing things from dash, I am surprised tachometer is still there....

Additional benefit to having a dipstick (especially for the late lamented Automatic Transmission dipstick)
is the ability to sniff the oil clinging to the metal. Lots to be gleaned from the color and odor, again particularly
from the Auto Trans. Burnt smell, gritty feel and even coolant smell point out trouble gauges and sensors
can not convey.
