That seems like a reasonable assumption. It would explain why that option doesn’t show on our new RX. But I would think bc6152 should see it on the app for his ES then as he bought several months before I did.

Default After the update data entry, there are 'none available'

I followed the flow on the app and had to enter the map versions and some numbers from another nav screen (some checksum or vehicle key, I'm guessing) -- and it said "no update available" -- which is also the loose translation (and result) of the in-car nav screen that says "update"....

I do agree that the primary function of dynamic navigation is advertised as updated POI, but there is also mention of updating the map... so I would think that the date (or something) would change to give feedback to the user that their money is well-spent.

Always nice to start a semi-provocative thread! Good answers all -- which is why I asked.

You are correct Doug. I bought my 2019 in December of 2018 and this coming December my free subscription will expire. Thus, the option to re up is available as you previously stated in the "glove box". Thanks for the tip as I just didn't look far enough on the app.

Great information on the Dynamic Navigation update after three years. I have the 2018 LS 500, and my Dynamic Navigation just expired on March 28, 2021. What a mess. Dealership said updates bought through Lexus Corporation as a satellite download. The tech person at dealership also stated this point. Some have had issues using the Lexus App to do update. The supervisor for technology for Lexus Corp stated dealership not reading their bulletins. The dealership should do unless you want to do by receiving of License and a USB stick. The cost is $169 for software updates. Dealership decides if they add labor charges. I am asking for no labor charges when they do Dynamic Navigation update for me next week-April 6, 2021. They say it is their first attempt. So I am nervous. They are giving me a loaner for the day. Takes about 60 minutes. Lexus Corp states that battery should not be disconnected, otherwise, I lose all my setting for the radio channels, etc. Dynamic Navigation updates your factory maps, so a waste of money to buy the map updates that come out every few years unless you are a realtor, etc. Dynamic Navigation is renewed for two years.
Thanks everyone on your info as I agree that Lexus does not think through their technology elements with renewals down the road.
Happy Easter and Passover.

I had the map data updated in Oct 2020. The updated version was 05-70-00 [2019-10-0]. It took a long time to do. They give you 3 free updates within 3 years. I never intend to endure this again, which may be what they're hoping for.

If you press the "update map button, you get:

Heres the Software versions:

Boy am I glad I use Google Maps on CarPlay. No dealer visits. No manual updates. No $169 every 3 years.

And to top it all off, it's infinitely better than the Lexus navigation in every way.

Agree that Google and Waze maps are nice and except for the $1000 phone and data plan expense
that I'm paying for anyway they are free. What I like about the native Lexus Navigation is the ease of
scaling and scrolling, pinch and spread to zoom, flick and drag to move. Those functions are a bit fussier
on the phone apps using the icons and arrows. Also like the visual traffic conditions (red/yellow/green corridors)
on the main map. Waze traffic is the best by far and I leave it running in the background to chime in.
Last native feature on some Lexi is the secondary side screen. Car Play can show its map and media
side by side but the regular setup permits many more variants. Everyone knows about the Weather
Channel, right? Nothing impresses passengers like, "show weather forecast" and she shows and tells!

I presume that you own an iPhone regardless of which car you own. Therefore, your only added expense is the cable to plug it in to the car's USB port.

My regular cell phone is an android. My friend gave me their old iPhone 8. I subscribe to Tello for $7 a month, which gives me 1 GB of data and 100 minutes of talk time per month. I've never used more than half of either. The data use of Google Maps is negligible.

My dual purpose for the iPhone 8 is Amazon Music and Google Maps. So you could say I pay $84 per year to bypass the Lexus Infotainment system entirely. It's well worth the cost. The ability to make hands-free phone calls is an added bonus. I only use Amazon Music in Offline Mode. If I allowed it to stream Amazon Music, I'd need to buy a lot more data. I download my music at home, which I prefer to do anyway.

Yes, I wish Google Maps had pinch and zoom capability. I miss that occasionally. But I like Google Maps the best for so many reasons. The Lexus traffic is worthless, IMO. I tried Waze, but I don't like the look of it. It looks too cluttered and cartoon-like for my taste.

I didn't download the Technicians pages when posting the civilian notes earlier but now you can see why
doing the update ourselves using the App and the $169 stick may be preferred to paying the Lexus techs
to wrestle with this process.

bc6152 - you are confusing the Dynamic Map Update with the Lexus App subscription which is easy to do.

All Lexi 2018 and newer can subscribe and use the Lexus App to lock/unlock/start/find/monitor/schedule events.
2018 and 2019 cars got the basic Safety Connect (and key fob remote start!) for 120 month, 10 years!
After the 12 month Lexus App trial the subscription is $80/year or $8/month as noted.

2020 and 2021 cars get everything, SC, Lexus App, Destination Assist (live operator), Dynamic Nav/Voice for 36 months
After the 36 month trial the subscription will be $160/year for the Lexus App and the required Safety Connect to communicate
between you, your car and the Lexus servers.

2017 and older models will be losing the Safety Connection after Halloween 2022 when the 3G network "sunsets" but
can continue to subscribe month to month until 10/31/2022. No plans to retrofit or update the hardware are available.

Only Navigation equipped cars use the Dynamic features covered in this thread. Optional just as the static map updates
have been all along for all brands of Navigation systems, portable (Garmin) or installed (planes/trains/automobiles)
