The cost of moving a freight container across the pond is nearly 5x what is was before this mess. Then there's higher domestic freight due to crude costs and we have a huge economic mess on our hands. Back on topic - how bout that 22 ES😋

But the current times have been far from normal. Over the course of the last 6-8 months, the value 2019-2021 vehicles has gone up significantly. When the 2022 models hit the showroom, I would expect that, because of the continued chip shortages and other factors, the number of new vehicles that will be hitting the showrooms will be smaller than what you would normally expect, and those 2022 ES will likely be selling for prices that are near to or even above MSRP.
Because the number of new 2022 ES will be relatively small and because of the higher sales prices of those cars, I would expect that values of used 2019-2021 ES will go down a bit, but not much, when the 2022s arrive in the showrooms.

I just spoke to a salesman from a Lexus dealer in MI and he said they have 0 (zero) new ES’s, he also said that the Kentucky factory was closed for 3 weeks.
They have no idea when they will get the ‘22 model, plus there wont be enough cars.

There is no question that the demand for sedans continues to shrink more and more every year, but, if the manufacturers only are able to get the parts to build a relatively small number of sedans, the demand for sedans will still exceed the small number of sedans being built. And, as I said above, that is why it is likely that, for the foreseeable future, people will be paying MSRP or more for new sedans, and prices for used sedans will continue to be inflated.

Honestly I think my next car will be electric. It's sad that Lexus has not shown off any development in electric cars. Mercedes already has a FULL electric lineup in every category already in development stage. While only Toyota has shown off an electric Rav4. The electric car era is coming fast, hard, and heavy. It's going to be the new norm sooner than you think.
I think this is why Toyota is lobbying US gov to be less enthusiastic on EV. They're unprepared. Caught flat footed. Banked too much dev time and resources on hybrids and underestimated how fast EV would come.
