This is an issue with all paint, not unique to Lexus

How much better is this and plain old wax?

What's the difference between this and what they call a paint protection package?

Those spray on products are a mild protection at best slightly better than nothing. Ceramic coating is legit protection, PPF or paint protection film is far better and also the most expensive. Well worth it if you keep your car for a long time.

The one i used sheds water (not beading really) far better than any wax I've ever used and also for a much longer period of time.

Here the UV index is very high in the summer it bakes off any spray on product in a few weeks or less. I've tried them all. Ceramic coating lasts at least 1 year and has mild scratch protection. PPF has a very high UV block factor.

PPF and a ceramic coating are entirely different products used for entirely different purposes. Not an either or.

PPF is designed to protect paint against scratches and rock chipping, ceramic coatings are a super durable more traditional paint protectant designed to provide UV protection, protect gloss and protect against staining and surface contamination.

Different products designed to protect against different things. I have both, and in fact my PPF is also ceramic coated.

Same for me. It is the "best" protection currently available if your vehicle spends most of its life living outside like mine.
