Default Does anyone elses auto dimming side mirrors not work?

Or maybe they do. I picked up a 2021 ES300H Luxury trim. According to the user manual, the side mirrors also have auto dimming feature. However, I still get blinded by vehicles behind me even though the main rearview mirror doesn't blind me. Also tried toggling the auto-dimming switch on and off and I don't think I see a change for the side mirrors.

Does anyone else have this issue? Or is the dimming feature so minuscule it doesn't make a difference.

2020 ESh Luxury here. Yes, I have noticed the same thing. Very little dimming. I haven't been able to figure it out. Initially, I thought that it could have something to do with the rear shade being extended, thereby reducing the inside rearview mirror's sensitivity to light from behind, but it is a hypothesis I have not tested.

Aiming the outside mirrors outward about 15* nearly eliminates blind spots. A significant reduction in headlight glare is an added bonus.

My 2022 ES 350 doesn’t dim nearly as much as rear view mirror.

Speaking of side mirrors for the longest time I thought I was doing fine until I learned it from watching a pro on how to adjust them properly.

I haven't watched any of the videos on it, but i always adjust my side mirrors out just until the car baaaarely disappears for maximum coverage.

Some of the old german cars have aspherical side mirrors where the edge of the mirror is curved so you can see more.

as far as being blinded by the side mirrors i don't really notice it. but tint probably helps.

Thank you for that! I have my R-sideview correct, but my L-sideview is definitely not angled outward enough.

OP, I thought the 7th Gen. ES 350's don't have auto-dimming sideviews(?)

My 2022 ES 300h Luxury mirrors auto dim.

I have had several ESs over the years and they all auto dim.

However all my cars I’ve had the windows tinted and it does impact the sensor on the inside mirror.

I watched the above video and it does make sense and help.

I don't worry too much about having the mirrors optimally adjusted, as I find the Blind Spot Monitoring system to be reliable.

Until they don't! Technology will at some point fail!

Precisely. This is the same line of thought as never actually looking behind or around as you move in reverse because the sensors will detect anything in your path. I'd rather take make at least the token effort just in case the sensors fail to detect something and I accidentally hit something or, worse, injure someone. It would be zero defense if you did cause damage or injury to say you just relied on the sensors.

I always adjust my side view mirrors until I can't see my outside door handles. Works like a charm for me.

Quick trick to trigger the Electrochromic mirrors is to cover the light sensor on the
back side of the inside rear view mirror (faces the windshield) with a finger tip,
Start the car and the mirror(s) will instantly begin darkening and become fully dark
within a couple of seconds. Cold ambient temperatures will slow the response of
the outside mirrors. While most Lexus models that have the Auto-dimming feature
include all three (3) mirrors some only affect the inside and driver's side units.

The ES350 does not come with autodimming side mirrors.
