I think about it a lot and I think the biggest reason/explanation for a lot of our complaints is that our cars are based on the Camry. I think the 8ES would benefit from being based on the Crown which seems like a better/bolder and more durable/stout/luxurious base. Of course I haven't tested the new Crown out so I could be wrong but from what I gather, it's a bigger bolder and more stout platform. The ES needs to break away from the Camry. It's like birthed at the hip, or in chains. It doesn't make it a terrible car as the Camry is a good car, but it holds it back from being truly excellent. I imagine we'll start seeing 8ES news/prototypes somewhat soon. So we'll see!

I wouldn't mind an evolution of the 8ES, in terms of style anyway, just aesthetically smoother, less bumpy. Like the tail lights that stick out...makes for a bumpy surface. oh and the door handles... smooth it out. Like the new S Class. It got smoothed out.

Here’s a very trivial scenario but nevertheless at times annoying:

I go into the garage at night needing to open the trunk (without the key). I open the driver door but the overhead, door and floor lights are insufficient to illuminate the trunk release button (which is adjacent to the fuel lid release). I basically have to guess at its location, sometimes opening the fuel lid instead. GRRRR!

Not sure if this has been posted before, but I recall seeing it on the LS forums I believe, but despite having a fully loaded ES, I still have blank switches on the left hand side. Not a big deal, but it's just odd..

I absolutely hate the AC control toggles. They’re annoying and take forever to go to the lowest or highest setting. They feel like they are going to break if you go too fast. My 2020 Accord had a dial that you could spin very quickly. I liked that much better.
I also don’t like how long it takes the AC to come on when you hit the auto button. It can be annoying in Texas 100 and plus degree heat.

Other than those 2 things, I love my ES.

You can set the temperature by using the voice command.
Also, the AC can be sped up on personalised settings.

yes. Agree. Trunk and fuel lid buttons shouldn’t be next to each other.

The trend to reduce vehicle control redundancy seems to be increasing with newer vehicles. The temperature controls almost seem to be an afterthought almost pushing you to use the voice automated prompts or the expectation is the temperature wouldn’t be adjusted often enough. In my opinion, eventually there will be less redundancy when it comes to controls as they will move more to voice guidance, or voice operation. Case in point, the removal of the mouse, and strictly going towards the touchscreen for many operations. I personally am not yet ready to have all controls vacated as I do like some tactile controls, especially audio controls. Like every evolution, vehicles will force us to move towards voice guided operation. IMO Might as well start getting used to it.

I agree as I had a 2018 Accord touring and the controls were more intuitive regarding the temp. control. I think a dial is more functional than a toggle switch that the ES has. Just awkwardly stands out.

Not sure if this has anything to do with the adaptive suspensions or what but I've noticed a hydraulic type of sound when I shift from Drive or Reverse to Park. It's fairly faint but you can't unhear it once you do. Anyone know what this could be or have this "issue" too?

Yep, it's the parking brake. It's set to automatic.

I've noticed that one as well - a bit annoying. I feel for the two buttons when I can't see them knowing that the fuel door is one furthest to the left.

Hmmm toggle to 72 and make sure it's on AUTO. What more do you really need.

Is your parking brake set to engage automatically?

Based on his post, he isn't engaging it manually so it is almost certainly set to auto.
