Default 2019-2022 ES300h engine oil and filter replacement

Hello again,
I am a Lexus Master Technician and I am creating a series of maintenance/repair tutorial videos covering the 2019-2022 Lexus ES300h models.
Here is my video showing how to replace the engine oil and filter on ES Hybrid models.
Please hit me up with suggestion on what other things you would like to see in the video comments.
Cheers!
Viktor

Hate how with these engines they went back to the 1990s with the single use oil filter that just clog up land fills.

The canister design was superior where you only change the paper filter.

Another cost cutting measure.

Btw, why are you changing oil on a brand new car? 😀

I wouldn't want to buy a new car that was taken apart to make a video.

LjeksesES; how is this any different than buying a demo car? At least with a demo car you can see the added mileage on the odometer.

Hi Viktor,
Thanks for the excellent videos, they are great!

Could you please make another oil and filter video; this time for the ES350 (cartridge oil filter).
Another topic to consider for video could be the engine air filter and any other inspection-only items on the Lexus official routine maintenance list. Although fairly easy, it is tight to get the aiR filter out without disconnecting some of the wiring cable clips on the lid. The vacuum hose is also very short; it came off on me last time, lucky I noticed it.

The engine and cabin air filters are really pretty simple on the ES.

Great videos, following you! I’d love to see a transmission fluid video on the newer ES350

Hi Viktor,

I follow this guy on youtube who is a master tech at toyota and he says that only 0w16 oil should be used and anything else can cause problems with the engine because it was designed to only use 0w16 oil. Is this true? I would like to use 0w20 or even 5w20 in this car. Its a 2021 ES300h

^That's easy. Follow the manual. The engine is optimized and calibrated for the viscosity called for by the manufacturer. As the manual says in most cars including this one, only in limited use cases can you use a slightly different rated viscosity. But as I tell people, to be blunt, oil viscosity is none of your business. The engineers did their homework and research using supercomputers and proprietary secret internal data using finite analysis study. This topic is not for the home gamer to be discussing or debating since you'd have no idea without access to internal engineering docs. In other words anyone outside of Toyota Corp. can debate what to use all day long but unless you have access to Toyota's data inside their "vaults," you are just speculating. This is why the owners manual exist and why companies hire engineers.

not true, that is from the carcarenut.

You can use anything specified in the Australian and many overseas manual:

The only issue is the 10w-30 oil for cold starting below 0 F or -18 C.

And before anyone who jumps up and down and say their USA manual only says 0w-16, that is due to CAFE and has nothing to do with the actual engine.

Why not 0W16?

P.S. Three months ago I bought a 2020 ESh with 20000 miles and today I spoke with the service guy and he told me that they use Mobil 1 0W16 a not TGMO. That pissed me off.

I'm not a thin oil guy. I believe that this is just for CAFE reasons. My belief has always been that in order to minimize wear always use a oil with HTHS of 3.5 or greater. The 0w16 has a HTHS that hovers around 2.6. There are many SAE articles that say that any viscosity below HTHS of 2.6 sees drastically increased wear. So for this reason alone I'm really not comfortable using 0w16.
