Default PPF coverage with port installed 3M film?

My ES was to arrive this week but now I will pick it up on Monday. The car comes with Paint Protection Film. I usually get PPF on all my cars after my purchase and cover the headlights, entire hood, fenders, grill, front bumper and side view mirrors

Would anyone here know the coverage this port installed paint protection film on the ES provides? The Lexus site isn’t very clear. This is how they describe it

PAINT PROTECTION FILM[9] BY 3M™ $430[3]

I doubt it would be port / factory installed. Probably dealer.

If it is the Lexus option PPF that has a price of around $500, it is only going to cover the bumper, front portion of the hood, and front portion of the fenders, which will leave large vulnerable areas unprotected.

My question would be is anyone getting the paint protection film for $500 these days? I bought two Lexus in the last two years and both cost me close to $700.

PPF is difficult to install well and looks horrible when applied poorly. Personally I wouldn't trust any "port installation" or even dealership installation for that matter. Take it to a qualified PPF shop with good reviews that applies film to high end cars. For what its worth getting PPF on my GT350 (bumper and front part of hood and fenders) was $1200 here in MD. The guy did an excellent job.

I mostly agree with these comments. I would say any potential buyer needs to research this. Our dealer previously outsourced the PPF to an Expel shop which did a good job. The dealer has since “stole” some people and now have their own shop. I’m pleased to say they do excellent work in my opinion. I have had bad jobs from the same dealer when they were outsourcing to an unqualified shop. The point is, you can get good or bad jobs from a dealer, just as you can from a professional/dedicated shop. You just need to research it - perhaps ask for references or ask to inspect a job before the car is returned to its owner.

Isn't that verbiage reference to the door edge guards, the trunk guards, the rear door etc. the little bits and pieces most new Lexuses comes with usually.
I peeled all that crap off except for the door edge. but that may come next/soon for me.

Installing PPF is more than likely outsourced by your dealer. I'm no expert but I've had two new cars done (full hood, full bumpers, front doors, and mirrors) by one of the best PPF shops in the Tampa Bay area. I've asked for Expel products that have a slightly longer warranty that 3M. $450 will not give you a lot of protection. If you have the opportunity to do so I recommend you pay the difference out of pocket and get all the bumper done and the entire hood. I visited my shop recently.and told them to get ready for my new NX350h -if I ever see it. They were working on a full wrap (100%) of a new Mcclaren GT owned by one of the TampaBay team players - they wouldn't say who.

How long does the stuff last until it starts to look worn out? I’ve never once gotten this on a new car I bought.

I have it on my the front of my 9 year old Avalon with 110K miles, and still looks good. Also on the door edges - there it has some wear, but still looks mostly OK.

Biggest regret is not putting it on the rear bumper right away on my wife's ES. First time that we picked my daughter up from school, getting her instrument out, she scratched the bumper ... at this point will just wait until there are a critical mass of scratches/scrapes and get it fixed and covered.

Currently 4.5 years on my RX. Multiple vehicles well over four years each and they have all looked brand new. Depends on product and care. They need a wax or coating regularly just like the paint.
