How is it hype if that’s what people are experiencing in different parts of the country? I took delivery of a new ES UL a week ago and it was MSRP + a mark up of over $1K. Both Lexus dealers in the Atlanta area are doing it and they were set in that, no negotiation.
I know as of just a couple months ago, exactly the same in suburban Chicago. MSRP plus $1,500 for a couple pieces of mandatory junk you didn't ask for.
I am very fortunate that my local dealer doesn't participate in the mark-up trend. They are acutely aware of negative impact that business decision translates to with respect to customer satisfaction and loyalty. Just today I noticed that they received their first Ultra Luxury since I purchased mine and it's straight up MSRP. The only potential add-ons are the body side moldings and rear bumper applique`. $290 is a far cry from $1-2K mark-ups. Due to my relationship with my contact I could get a discount. Not as significant of a discount if the UL had been a special order but enough!
Plenty of dealers are NOT gouging even in this climate.
yeah, i think this is basically what i meant to say when i first posted. obviously there are plenty of dealerships out there putting a "market adjustment" on their vehicles but that is certainly not emblematic of all dealerships and for those in markets where they are unable to find any dealerships willing to forego the markup, you have my sympathies
I paid MSRP of $54,415 before taxes and fees with no ad ons. I think I got a pretty good deal because even though I paid MSRP, I got $29,400 for my Honda Accord Sport 1.5 and I only paid $26,500 for it. So I pretty much got to drive around in a brand new Honda for free with $2,900 in my pocket and got what I wanted all along, a Lexus ES 350 F Sport.
I put down 17K so my payments are only $178.00 at 2.49% APR 😁
The dealer was a non-haggle dealer and the ES was one of those that they mark it down. I inquired to them about a different vehicle and it was sold, they were able to dealer trade this one for me and still charged under MSRP. It took about 2 months.

You got a deal 😁 Not many of us can say we got a car for less than MSRP this deep into the pandemic. I got my Accord for about $500 under MSRP…. but then, that was August of 2020 and things weren’t that bad then and many dealers had plenty of cars on the lot.

Funny thing, I called Sewell Dallas on a Saturday inquiring about the ES300h's they had. Called back on Monday and someone else already reserved it. So I had to call elsewhere. But good thing Sewell doesn't charge over MSRP and no doc fee though, one of my relatives just got their 350 UL 2 weeks ago from there too.

They probably have plenty of inventory. My daughter just purchased a new car (not Lexus) - dealer presented proposal PLUS $4,000 market adjustment. She offered MSRP and they accepted. The dealers will keep this up as long as the consumers accept it as real.
