valid point, but engine is the most expensive item, with transmission being number 2. Other stuff is important, but would not be end of the world if it goes. For a lot of cars given their book value, when engine goes, its the end of it.

Dude, I was talking about people and CARS not just specifically the 7ES. That should have been apparent when I said I’ve observed this for over twenty years. You’re so eager for a “gotcha!” moment you’re failing to read for comprehension.

Ive known about electric power steering assist since I had it on a car 11 years ago.

I used to have a block list with just two people on it for this forum. I probably should do that again and I won’t have to increase it from two…

DUDE - this is the 7ES forum - chill out. Man you've got a stick stuck somewhere. Please ignore my posts.

Let’s keep things polite and mature folks, or don’t push the reply button

I must be an unusual "forum person," as I stay on top of all maintenance intervals for all systems, and sometimes go beyond the manufacturer recommendations, but also stretch-out others, based on 60 years of DIY wrenching experience. All fluids are critical, but even manufactures (not dealers) gloss over the importance of fresh brake fluid, power steering fluid, and ATF. In fact, most Lexus/Toyota transmissions are "sealed" these days and the manual says the fluid is good for the life of the vehicle! I mistrust this "lifetime" recommendation and have devised ways to change it regardless of the lack of drain plugs and filler necks and dipsticks.

Some other parts that are traditionally changed semi-regular are hoses and belts. However, I have found Toyota/Lexus rubber to be so good, I rarely find the need to change them for preventative maintenance, but will change them if removing them for other work, i.e., timing belt, etc. If we grew up with American cars, we tend to think belts and hoses should be replaced every 2-4 years, however, my '85 MR2 still has all its original hoses!

BTW...I haven't owned a vehicle requiring "the packing of wheel bearings" in many decades. To bring this up, you must be as old as me!
