I paid MSRP + $399 Window tint +288 doc fee= $ 56,572
I traded 2017 Audi S3 for $32,200 ( My original cost was $42,700). I also trade 2013 Ford F150 for $16,540 (my original cost was $ 18.000). My balance due was $ 6,372 which I had set aside in cash for maintenance and upkeep for the the Audi this year…. So I broke even and have a new car with a warranty!!!! I had no problem paying MSRP.
I began the deal the first week of December 2021 and completed on 3/3/2022.

Yes the trade in values as well as the upcoming year’s maintenance expense on the Audi were my driving factors to make this purchase. Additionally, I wanted a tried and true engine and a car that could go the distance as well as added level of comfort.

Yes indeed the maintenance costs on some German autos can be over the top. I was chatting with someone who owns a Porsche Cayenne the other day - routine oil change at the dealer $385. Four wheel brake job $3,400. OUCH.

(Slight correction: I just looked at my paperwork and my document fee was $249 not $288). So I was off by a couple dollars. My out-the-door was $56,533

I came very close to pulling the trigger on a beautiful red 2022 S5 but it was going to take 11 months to get. So in my moment of clarity I decided to make my last Internal Combustion Engine a Lexus. Dependability, repairability, longevity, and resale value were all factors as well as insurance, and MPG (about the same with the the S3 ). I also liked the A6 but was told it has one of the highest depreciation rates,. I have already had my BMW experience which was akin to a nasty divorce and Mercedes was never a consideration; so here I am.

I had my experience with BMW as well back in 2007 and I learned my lesson. Having to sue a manufacturer over a crap engine and being in the shop nearly 20 times in the first year is never how one wants to be introduced to a brand!
While you were ok with paying MSRP, I'm betting most that have bought their 22's will probably not be as forthcoming. Having only paid a little over $47k for my 22' UL, I count myself fortunate. Especially when the car I really wanted would have been $68k+ and would have taken about as long as it would have taken for the S5 you were looking @.
